Week of Aug. 26 to Aug. 30

This Week's Schedule: Both TTs are open this week.  Make appointment in Teachmore for Tuesday and Wednesday.  

Reminder: if you come to TT in room 122, you MUST bring academic work.  If you don't have homework or studying to do, bring a book to read.  

Back-To-School Night!  BTSN will take place on Thursday, August 29th.  You'll receive more information about BTSN this week. You are welcome to attend with your parents/guardians. Friday will be a short day. School is out at 1:30 pm. 

Monday, September 2nd is Labor Day!  No school. 

EL World History

Your government posters are due on Monday. 

We'll begin to focus on democracy.  How is it different from autocracy?  What are the advantages and disadvantages of democracy?  

We'll cover the history of democracy.

US History

We're wrapping up our first unit -- Colonies to Constitution. 

If you missed last week's quiz on "Path to Revolution," see me immediately to arrange a makeup. 

Due Monday: Your answers to the questions on "The War for Independence." 

We'll review the war, and maybe watch a video on the end of the conflict. 

You'll answer questions about our Constitution.

We'll move on to a new unit on the Expansion of the United States.

Week of Aug. 19 to Aug. 23

 This Week's Schedule: Block Periods Return!  Tuesday and Wednesday are block days. 

Trojan Time: Both TTs are closed this week.  Go to your "9th period" class.  Make appointments for open TT next week, August 27 and 28. 

Club Day:  This Wednesday at lunch. 

Fire Drill: Thursday, 3rd period.  Classes are slightly shorter than usual, but you are dismissed at the usual time (3:35).

EL World History

On Monday, you'll re-take the vocabulary quiz on historical time periods. 

We'll continue our coverage of types of government.  You'll take notes on different types of government and fill in a chart. 

You'll create a poster showing six types of government. 

More new vocabulary!

We'll begin to focus on democracy, and how it is different from other types of government. 

Edpuzzle for this week: Government.  

US History

We'll continue to track the main causes of the American Revolution. 

You'll complete the chart of "Events Leading to the Revolution."  We'll pause for a more focused coverage of the Boston Massacre. 

We'll cover the outbreak of the Revolution and the Declaration of Independence.

You'll read an excerpt from Thomas Paine's "Common Sense." This important pamphlet convinced many colonists to support the Revolution. 

We're working our way toward a quiz on the events and ideas that led to the American Revolution.  We might be ready for this by the end of this week or early next week.

Week of August 12 to August 16

 This Week's Schedule: All days are "regular" days: you have all six periods, and school is over at 3:35 pm.  Block periods and Trojan Time start next week. 

Welcome Back Assembly!  Friday, August 16.  You will go the the assembly with your 4th period class. When the assembly is over, you will return to your 4th period class.  Periods are about 46 minutes long, and school is out at 3:26 pm.  Welcome Back Assembly

EL World History

Due Monday: Three ring binder and permission slip.  We'll put the binder together in class on Monday. 

I'll return your vocabulary notebooks, and you'll receive a set of basic social studies words that we will use throughout the year. 

We'll discuss historical time periods and dates. 

If we have time, we'll begin our first unit covering types of government and the rise of democracy.  

US History

Due Monday: Three ring binder and permission slip.  We'll put the binder together in class on Monday.  

Due Tuesday: Textbook notes on "Three Worlds Meet."  

I'll present an overview of European migration and settlement in the New World. 

We'll review your textbook notes and you can correct/amend your notes. You'll take an open-note quiz on this material on Wednesday or Thursday. 

You'll complete a map of the British colonies of North America.
