First Quarter ends Friday!

US History:
1. We'll finish the posters in class at block, and prepare for the test on Thursday.

World History:
1. Due Friday: 10 Most Important Facts from the reading given out in class at block. Read both sides carefully, highlighting or underlining as you go. Choose the 5 very most important facts from each side of the reading.

APEH:
1. You should be taking reading notes on the Thirty Years' War.
2. Finish the chapter in McKay and work on your study guide questions.

Reminder: First Quarter ends this Friday! See all your teachers about making up any work you've missed. Check to see what your current grades are! If there is anything you don't understand, ask your teacher for an explanation.

US History:
1. Due Monday: T Chart on Reconstruction, if you didn't finish it in class on Friday. One side should include all the things about the Reconstruction era that helped freed slaves...some things may have been helpful over the long term and others may only have helped for a little while. On the other side, put things that caused Reconstruction to be ineffective in helping freed slaves.
2. Test on this unit will probably take place on Thursday of next week.

World History:
1. Due Monday: your own handmade vehicle! Any materials are fine.

APEH:
1. Get started reading the next chapter in McKay and the handouts.
2. Make as big a list as possible of traits of the modern nation-state.
3. Start memorizing those French kings!!

2. We'll do some peer editing and look at some thematic essay topics on Friday and Monday.

1. Reading notes on the Industrial Revolution are due Friday.
2. Your vehicle is due Monday! Use any materials. It can be any type of vehicle. It should be individualistic!

APEH:
1. Reformation MC test is Thursday. Your study guide is due, along with the few things I stamped.
2. What do you think accounts for the enormous amount of violence that occurs in the Reformation period? Is it just one factor or a combination of factors? Political, social or religious?

1. Gettysburg Address worksheet is due on Thursday. If you can recite the Address from memory, I will give you 10 extra credit point. Yes, I can do it. No, I will not do it for you, since you can't give me extra credit points.

World History:
1. We are writing our essay in the computer lab at block period this week. Bring your binder with all your notes and your outline. You may not bring a draft of the essay.
2. You'll need a new divider for the Industrial Revolution.


APEH:
1. We'll write our DBQ in the lab on Tuesday. Bring the question with notes you have written on it, but don't bring a draft. Bring your book to the lab in case you finish your essay and have time to work on your study guide.
2. We'll take the MC test on the Reformation on Thursday.

1. I will hand out guidelines and organizers for the essay on Thursday, and we'll start preparing. By the time we get to the computer lab next week, you should have an outline completed. Keep your notes in order!

APEH:
1. Work on study guides. You should be working on the identifications. If you want to retake the map test, Thursday at lunch is last call.

2. Binder check is Friday. If you're not maintaining a binder, bring a 3-ring binder (at least 1" wide) to class, and bring all material you have accumulated. Dig around in your room, backpack, locker, back seat of your car, etc., and gather all the stuff. Let's get organized. Bring some dividers (or you can make them from colored paper).

US History:
1. Answers to the "Civil War" questions are due on Monday. There was plenty of time in class to finish these, but if you were one of the slackers....Please read the handout carefully, and highlight/underline to help with comprehension. One of the questions asks you to create a chart of differences between regions of the country...please do this carefully, as you will need this information.
2. Also due Monday (assigned last Monday) are the questions on the short oral histories from American Indians, and the paragraph (question #6).

World History:
1. If you didn't finish the Cornell notes on "Napoleon's Rise and Fall" and the map of Napoleon's empire in class, finish these for Monday.
2. Start thinking about Napoleon and his empire. After 10 years of bloody revolution and war, Napoleon came to power. Did the French people get the "liberty, equality, fraternity" that they had demanded at the start of the revolution?

APEH:
1. Work on your study guide.
2. I'll post the scores for the map test on Monday...a few people need to retake it.
3. Keep thinking about the causes of the Reformation -- there are lots of them. Remember to think of social (intellectual, class-related, etc.), political and economic causes.

1. Map quiz Friday -- it's the 1555 map we filled out on the overhead projector.
2. You should be finished reading the material in the copied handout (from volume I of Perry) as well as the other handouts I've given you. Do the assigned Review Questions from the study guide. I'll assign some of the terms/definitions as well.
3. Try to list as many causes of the Reformation as you can -- both short and long term. Remember social/political/economic. Think of big intellectual and social trends as well as more immediate political and economic motivations.

APEH:
1. Let's have a quiz on the 1555 map (the one we filled in on the overhead at block) on Thursday. It will be easy...you'll see.
2. Think about the ideas of Luther and Calvin. Which ones could be worked out with the Catholic Church (in other words, which ones involved corruption, abuse of power, etc.)? Which ones seem to be matters of doctrine -- things that could not be worked out?
3. Read carefully the material in the handout and book on the Council of Trent and other Church initiatives, such as the Tametsi decree and the founding of the Jesuits and Ursulines. How did the Church try to respond to Protestant criticism and the loss of many Catholics to Lutheranism and Calvinism?

Juniors! Don't forget to sign up for the PSAT, which will be given on Saturday morning, October 20th. Cost is $25 -- pay in the finance office. The PSAT is really good practice and feedback for the SAT.

2. Was Luther a conservative or a revolutionary? What's the evidence both ways?
3. What is the relationship between "critical scholarship" and the Lutheran Reformation?

1. You should have finished (or almost finished) your worksheet "Conflicting Goals Cause Divisions" in class on Friday. We'll review it on Monday.
2. We'll review for the test on Monday and block period, and try to be ready for the test on Thursday.

APEH:
1. Work on your comparison of Catholic, Lutheran, Calvinist and Anabaptist beliefs. In addition, consider matters such as the relation between church and state, the role of the religious hierarchy, attitudes toward women and marriage, attitudes toward work and prosperity/poverty, and other social and political differences.
2. You should be finished with Chapter 14 in McKay.
3. Work on the 1555 map when you can.

1. Keep reading McKay and the excerpts from Perry Vol. I. Make your list of Lutheran and Calvinist beliefs. In your opinion, what were the most essential differences between the Lutherans, Calvinists and Catholics?

First Quarter progress report grades will be filed with the office at 8:00 tomorrow (Tuesday) morning. They should be in your mailboxes by Saturday. If you are disappointed in your grade, please see me right away, so we can talk about the problem and look for a way to get you back in the game!

US History:
1. Your reading notes for pages 130-135 (Cornell style) are due at block. We'll review them and take an open-note quiz.
2. We're continuing our unit on the territorial expansion of the United States.
3. Who were the "Five Civilized Tribes?" In what region of the United States did they originally live? Why were they considered "civilized?" (Five points)

World History:
1. Your reading notes on page 214 (Cornell style) are due at block. We'll review them and take an open-note quiz.
2. We'll begin a chart showing the causes of the French Revolution. Try to remember the meaning of the categories "social," "political" and "economic." Under which category would you place the new ideas of the Enlightenment?
3. Who are the leaders of the governments of Canada and Mexico? Which political party does each man represent? (Five points)

APEH:
1. Unit test on Chapter 13 is at block. Please bring your completed study guide with you to the test. The test includes a multiple choice section and a some IDs and two short paragraphs. We have the full block period to complete the test.
2. I'll hand out the study guide for Chapter 14 and assign readings in McKay.
