Wednesday: Periods 2, 4, 6 and Trojan Time. 

Open Trojan Time on Tuesday ONLY. Wednesday's TT is closed.

Covid testing at the CFA, Monday - Friday.  If you get a 10 day quarantine due to symptoms, get tested so you can return to school asap.

Last Week: 

You finished and printed your paragraph on "The Wisest Philosopher." 

You took notes on the rise of democracy in the West.

Review: Types of Government and Philosophers of Government.

On Friday, you took the unit test on Types of Government, and I checked your binders.  

This Week:

We're starting a new unit on the French Revolution. 

The Sun King: you started this reading (with questions) on Friday, Sept. 24th.  We'll review it in class. 

We will preview the causes and consequences of the French Revolution. 

You will get some new vocabulary words for this unit to copy in your vocabulary notebook. 


US History:

Last Week: 

We reviewed the textbook assignment on Andrew Jackson ("New Era in Politics). 

You completed a chart and map of territories added to the United States between 1776 and 1898. 

Edpuzzle Video: Expansion and Texas. 
We continued our coverage of the conflict between European settlers and Native Americans.  

On Friday, you took the unit test on Expansion, and handed in materials from your binder.   If you missed the test, see me immediately to arrange a makeup.  If you need to do test corrections, plan to come to Trojan Time on Tuesday. 

This Week: 
We are starting a new unit on the Civil War.  You should have a new divider in your binder for this unit. 

Overview Reading (secondary source) with questions and a chart of sectional differences. 

You'll take some notes on Civil War Basics - who fought; who won. 

Edpuzzle video for this week: The Abolitionist Movement. 

You'll be starting a Timeline of Sectionalism -- Events Leading to the Revolution.

We reviewed the Renaissance/Exploration Study Guide, and reviewed the SAQ.

Witch-hunting -- what social pressures caused this outbreak of cruelty?  Who was targeted, and where was it most intense? 

The French Wars of Religion, aka The French Civil Wars.  Primarily religious or primarily political?  

The Catholic Reformation and Counter-Reformation, including Baroque Art. 

How many different causes of the Reformation can you identify?  Include social, political and economic causes.  What were the short-term and long-term consequences.  What were the Catholic responses

Chapter 13 SG -- you should have the Questions finished, and we will find time in class to work on the IDs.  You should also have plenty of information on your chart comparing religious movements of the Reformation era.

We'll finished the chart on the Philosophers of Government, and reviewed their ideas. 

You completed review activities on the philosophers: Venn diagrams, philosophers' statements, boxes. 

You worked on a rough draft of your paragraph on one of the philosophers. 

This Week:

You will finish and print your paragraph on "The Wisest Philosopher." 

You'll be taking notes on the rise of democracy in the West.

Last Week: 
Test corrections on the Colonies to Constitution test took place at Trojan Time

You finished your notes on the in-class videos ("Baffin Land" and "Pilgrims and Indians"). 

We reviewed  the Cornell notes on pages 130 to 135, and you took an open-note reading quiz during block period. Points for stamped notes were added to the quiz score. 

Edpuzzle Video: Indian Removal. 

You took notes on the new US government under President George Washington and Early US Policies, including the Louisiana Purchase, the War of 1812, and the Monroe Doctrine. 

On Friday, you analyzed a political cartoon about the Monroe Doctrine. 

Due Friday: Textbook Reading Guide, "New Era in Politics."

This Week:

We discussed the materials handed out last week: Readings/chart of Reformation religions, map of Europe in 1555, Renaissance/Reformation review sheet. 

We discussed Luther's "95 Theses."  You read  an excerpt from Luther's letter "To the Christian Nobility of the German Nation. "  You answered some questions and wrote an AP-style SAQ.

This Week:

Philosophers of Government: You will be reading about some important Western philosophers, and their ideas about human nature and government. You will be taking notes on a chart.  

Big Social Studies Vocabulary Quiz: Friday, September 10. 

This Week:

We started a new unit: Expansion of the United States.  

You filled in a map showing the physical features of the US landmass. 

You took Cornell reading notes on pages 130 - 135 in the "American Odyssey" textbook.  These notes are due on Monday, September 13.

You watched video segments and took notes on the early encounters between European settlers and Native Americans. 

This Week:
Sign up for open Trojan Time if you want to do test corrections. Your binder packet will be returned before you begin the corrections.  You may earn back as many as 1/2 of your lost points.

Your timeline of events leading to the Revolution was due on Monday, 8-30. Scores are posted in Aeries. 

Primary Source: Thomas Paine's "Common Sense." You read and annotate an excerpt from this important pamphlet, and answered questions about Paine's ideas. 

You took notes on the "natural rights" statement contained in the Declaration of Independence, and how it represents our idea of legitimate government.

You completed a set of questions on the War for Independence, drawing upon various sources for your answers. 

This Week:
