Week of April 24 to April 27

 Important Information for All Students: 

Fourth Quarter Progress Report Period ended Friday, April 21. I will file your grades on Tuesday. 

Schedule:  There is no TT this week  due to SBAC testing.  Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, all periods are blocks.  You need your computer for the SBAC tests.

Class Expectations: Please come to class on time every day, with your computer, binder, paper and pen/pencil.  Your computer should be charged, or you should have your charger with you. (Most teachers do NOT have "extra" chargers.) Please turn your phone off and put it away at the beginning of the period. 

Many assignments will be posted in Google Classroom, but others will be distributed in class.  If you are absent, email me to see whether I have a GC version of work that you missed.  Check Aeries for your current grade. Aeries is the official gradebook. 

If you have an excused absence, see me to get your work stamped and arrange any needed makeups when you return to school. 

COVID Precautions:  Masks are available in the front office. 


CLASSES

EL World History

Last Week:  

You completed your book about WWII. 

We reviewed for the WWII test.  

This Week:

Unit test on WWII!  I will check your binder. 

We'll move on to a short study of the Holocaust. 

Next unit: Russia and the Cold War. 


US History

Last Week:

You finished the textbook questions on "Cold War: New Battlefield. 

We reviewed for a test on the Cold War.

You took the Cold War unit test and handed in a binder packet. 

We started a mini-unit on Vietnam. You completed a map of Vietnam and started a set of notes on US involvement in Vietnam. 

This Week:

You'll get into groups to answer a series of discussion questions about the course of the Vietnam War. 

We'll also cover the "counterculture" that arose during this period. 

Vocabulary Quiz: Basic Vietnam Vocabulary. 

Watch the Edpuzzle overview of the Vietnam Conflict.  There's also an EC Edpuzzle on US soldiers' experiences in Vietnam. 

Next up: The Civil Rights Movement. 

Note on Edpuzzle videos: As I have mentioned in class, I'm deleting the links for Edpuzzle videos after 2-3 weeks.  The videos are intended as reinforcement of material currently being covered in class. You should plan to complete the videos during the time that we are covering the relevant subject matter in class.  


AP European History

Last Week: 

Your Ch 27 Study Guide was due on Monday. 

The Chapter 28 SG is posted in Google Classroom. 

MCQs.  Check AP Classroom.  They were all WWII-related. 

New AP Vids were posted.  There is an Edpuzzle Video on Unit 9 (Post WWII). 

DBQ: Instability of the Weimar Government. 

I lectured on the outbreak of WWII and the WWII Conferences.  I posted slide presentations reviewing the events of WWII in Europe and the Pacific, for you to review the basic events if needed.

You looked at a couple of DBQ topics, with a focus on articulating clusters of docs for paragraphs. 

This Week:
Your Chapter 28 SG is due. 

Chapter 29 SG is posted.  It's all IDs. 

AP Vids are posted.   Do the Unit 9 MCQs. 

More lectures on Postwar topics.  

More practice essay topics. 

AP Daily Vids: AP Videos should be watched during the week they are assigned.  If you want to watch old videos (or complete any work that is more than a couple of weeks old) you will need to communicate with me in advance for my approval.

Week of April 17 to April 21

We covered the end of WWII in Europe and the Pacific.  

We read about the atomic bombing of Japan by the US at the end of WWII, and you created a T-chart with facts that supported or opposed the use of the atomic bombs.  

You started working on a book about WWII. 

This Week:
You'll complete your book about WWII. 

We'll review for the WWII test.  


US History

Last Week:

You answered questions on the Cuban Missile Crisis. 

You will complete a review timeline of the Cold War through the Cuban Missile Crisis. 

Quiz: Early Cold War. 

You used my slides as a source for questions about the Cold War here in the US. 

We'll cover the intense ideological debate between the US and our Western allies, and the USSR.  You'll answer questions about how this debate played out here in the US (McCarthyism). 

Ecpuzzle: McCarthyism. 

You started working on a set of textbook questions about the later Cold War, including US actions in Asia and Latin America. 

This Week:

You'll have some time in class to finish the textbook questions. 

We'll start reviewing for a test on the Cold War.  We should be able to take the test by the end of the week.  You will hand in a binder packet. 

If we have time, we'll start our mini-unit on the war in Vietnam.

You took a quiz on the map of "Island Hopping in the Pacific." 

You created a newspaper front page on various aspects of WWII. 

This Week: 

We'll review the end of WWII in Europe and the Pacific.  

We will cover the atomic bombing of Japan by the US at the end of WWII.  

We'll begin reviewing WWII. 

If we have time, you will create a book about WWII.

We covered the Korean War, and analyzed primary sources by President Truman and General Douglas MacArthur.

Break: 
Chapter 26 SG.

This Week: 
Your Ch 26 SG is due on Tuesday.  

New AP Vids are posted.  Focus is the context for the outbreak of WWII.  There's also an Edpuzzle video on the Spanish Civil War. I will give you time in class to watch this. 

I will be lecturing on a series of Interwar topics.

We'll discuss the poetry.  

Be prepared for writing practice. I'm looking for prompts.
