Week of Mar. 25 to Mar. 29

Schedule for this Week: Tuesday's TT is open, so make an appointment!  Wednesday is closed. 

Third Quarter ended on Friday, March 15.  Quarter grades were submitted last Wednesday. See me if you have questions about your grade. 

Reminderif a teacher makes a TT appointment for you, you are expected to attend that teacher's TT.  If you have questions, or want to rearrange the appointment, talk with the teacher who made the appointment.  

Trojan Time Calendar  

Remember that TT is an academic period -- you must bring some schoolwork to do during TT.  If you don't have any work, bring a book to read.  You should not plan to spend the time gaming or chatting with friends. 


EL World History

Your book about WWII was due last Monday!  

New Unit: The Russian Revolution and the Cold War.   

We started with some notes about the growth of Russia, and Russian society before the revolution of 1917. There will be a quiz on this material this week!

Vocabulary -- you'll add new words to your vocabulary dictionary. 

You'll complete a map of the huge Russian Empire.

We'll discuss the weakness of the Russian Empire before World War I, and the various groups of Russians who wanted change. 

US History

If you missed the unit test on WWII or the SAQ on the atomic bomb, make an appointment for Trojan Time on Tuesday, or come to room 122 at lunch. I'm expecting all you work from the WWII unit to be completed BEFORE the Spring Break. 

 New Unit: The Cold War.  

Textbook Notes: The Cold War Deepens.  The textbook section is in Google Classroom. 

You'll compare points of view regarding the Marshall Plan -- General George Marshall (architect of the Plan) and A.V. Vyshinsky (Soviet diplomat). 

We'll discuss a major early Cold War conflict -- The Korean War.  You'll complete a map and answer questions about the different perspectives of President Truman and General MacArthur. 

You'll complete a review sheet on early Cold War events, and take an open-note quiz (Cold War Begins and Cold War Deepens). 

We will focus on the policy of containment, and how it impacted US foreign policy decisions.

You'll be creating a book about World War II.  

We'll start reviewing for the unit test.

US History

If you missed last week's quiz (Mobilizing the Home Front/War and Civil Rights), make a TT appointment for Tuesday or Wednesday of this week. 

You'll begin gathering information about the US foreign policy decision to drop atomic bombs on Japan at the end of WWII.  

We'll start with some notes on the end of the war in the Pacific.  You'll be filling in your chart as we go along. 

You'll also receive a handout with information and two highly opinionated sources about the US decision. 

The unit test on WWII will take place on Friday, March 15th.  I will collect a small packet from your binder.  

You will be writing about the US decision to use atomic bombs at the end of WWII at block period next week.

Week of Mar. 4 to Mar. 8

ASB Forum: On Monday, we will attend the candidates' forum.  Students running for ASB office will make brief speeches.  Come to class at the beginning of the period so I can take attendance; we will walk to the CFA together, and will sit together in the auditorium. You will leave your backpacks in the classroom.  No food or drinks are allowed in the CFA. 

Voting: Voting will take place during Open TT on Tuesday.  You will receive a link for voting in your student email.
