Week of Oct. 31 to Nov. 4

 Important Information for All Students: 

Schedule: Both Trojan Times this week are open. Make appointments!

Trojan Time Calendar 

Class Expectations: Please come to class on time every day, with your computer, binder, paper and pen/pencil.  Your computer should be charged, or you should have your charger with you. Please turn your phone off and put it away at the beginning of the period. 

Many assignments will be posted in Google Classroom, but others will be distributed in class.  If you are absent, email me to see whether I have a GC version of work that you missed.  Check Aeries for your current grade. Aeries is the official gradebook. 

COVID Precautions:  Most school activities will be "in person" this year! Masks are highly recommended but not required.  Masks are available in the office. Hand sanitizer will be available in the classroom.  If you have flu-like symptoms, please report this to the office.

Last Week:

You took a quiz on the National Assembly. 

You took notes on France's wars with other countries, and the Reign of Terror. 

We covered the rise and fall of Napoleon Bonaparte. 

We started our review of the French Revolution. 

This Week:

We'll continue to review our unit on the French Revolution. 

You will take the unit test on the French Revolution. 

We will move on to our next unit: The Industrial Revolution. 


US History

Last Week: 

You took an open-note quiz on "Rise of Industrialism." The focus was on monopolies. 

We finished the video on JD Rockefeller and the Standard Oil Trust. Was JD Rockefeller a "captain of industry" or a "robber baron"?

Populism and Protest: You answered questions about the problems facing workers, and the ways they tried to respond to their challenges. 

Edpuzzle: The Labor Union Movement. 

This Week:

We'll start our coverage of the immigration in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. 

You'll take some notes on the "new immigration." 

Edpuzzle: Immigration and the Rise of Nativism. 

We'll focus on reactions to the new wave of immigration using political cartoons. 


AP European History

We moved on to Chapter 15 -- Absolutism and Constitutionalism. These were the two types of government that developed in the period after the 30 Years' War.  Both involved greater sovereignty for central governments. 

We'll focus on absolutism in France and constitutionalism in England and Holland.   I lectured on Absolutism. 

You received primary source material from Bossuet and Hobbes (absolutism) and Locke (constitutionalism).  You discussed these sources in groups. 

The SG is posted.  We'll cover part of the unit with student presentations.

LEQ -- you wrote about the impact of the printing press. 

AP Vids were posted. Going forward, AP Daily Vids will be "live" for 2 weeks only. 

This Week: 
You'll have time to work on your presentations. 

I'll lecture on the development of constitutionalism in England.  

You'll get some handouts on the rise of Parliament and further shifts in English foreign policy. 

AP Vids are posted.  Work on the Chapter 15 SG questions and IDs (highlighted) and the sheet with fill-in questions.

We practiced for a vocabulary quiz, and you took the quiz on Friday (French Revolution vocabulary #1 - #3). 

This Week:

Last Week: 

Textbook Reading Guide: Rise of Industrialism.  Remember to use complete sentences. 

On Wednesday, we started our coverage of the era of industrialization that began immediately after the end of the Civil War.  

You analyzed a series of slides to evaluate the old saying, "What's Good for Business is Good for America." 

We reviewed the textbook  notes, and you watched part of a video about the rise of the Standard Oil Trust.

Week of October 17 to October 21.

 Important Information for All Students: 

Schedule: Monday is a staff workday -- no school for students.  Regular schedule on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.  Earthquake drill on Thursday -- All periods meet. The drill is during 3rd period.  Go to class, leave your stuff. You will be going back to 3rd period after the drill.

We finished reviewing the Tchart.  You reached a conclusion about whether Reconstruction was a success or a failure, based on the evidence you gathered. You sselected three important pieces of evidence that best support your conclusions. 

You analuyzed some political cartoons about Reconstruction and consider how they might be used to support your argument about the success/failure of Reconstruction. 

You wrote an evidence-supported paragraph on Reconstruction. 

On Friday, you took the multiple-choice unit test on the Civil War, and handed in a binder packet for the Civil War unit   

This Week:

We finished the lecture notes on Early Exploration, and I lectured on Settlement Patterns. 

We reviewed your annotations on the Perry excerpt.  The focus was on characteristics of the modern globalized economy and the modern Western nation-state. 

I handed out an excerpt from Montaigne's "On Cannibals" for you to read/annotate. 

No AP Vids this week, but there were two Edpuzzles.  

This Week:

You'll get into groups and discuss Montaigne.  

I'll lecture on cultural relativism. 

There are some AP MCQ's for you in AP Classroom.  There is one AP Vid on absolutism.

Week of Oct. 10 to Oct. 14

First Quarter ended on Friday, October 7.  I will submit your quarter grades to the office on Tuesday, October 11th.  Check Aeries and let me know if you have questions.

This Week:

We'll focus on the causes of the French Revolution: Social, Political and Economic.

We'll try some dictation.

Last Week: 

We reviewed the timeline of major events of the Civil War.

You read and analyze the Gettysburg Address. 

We moved on to the period after the Civil War, known as Reconstruction. Our focus will be on analyzing whether Reconstruction was a success or a failure. 

You researched important vocabulary terms/events/laws, etc. related to Reconstruction, and create a Tchart showing the successes and failures of this crucial period in US History. 

On Friday, we almost finished a review of the Tchart.

This Week: 

We'll finish reviewing the Tchart.  You should have reached a conclusion about whether Reconstruction was a success or a failure, based on the evidence you gathered. You should also have selected three important pieces of evidence that best support your conclusions.

I gave you an introductory handout (Perry excerpt) to read and annotate. Look for characteristics of the modern global economy and the modern nation-state. 

I started a lecture on Early Exploration.

AP Videos were posted, along with an Edpuzzle video on early exploration, focused mainly on the Portuguese and the Spanish. 

This Week:

We'll finish the lecture notes on Early Exploration, and I'll lecture on Settlement Patterns. 

If we have time, we will discuss the concept of cultural relativism.
