Week of 2-28 to 3-4

 Important Information for All Students: 

Schedule for this week

Both Trojan Times this week are "open." Don't forget to make appointments for both days. 

Friday, March 4th is a day off for students. 

Absences: If you were absent due to illness for an extended time period due to an exclusion or quarantine, see me about what materials you need to make up. Come to Trojan Time to find out what you can do to catch up.  

Give priority to current work! Check with me before you do assignments from pervious units. 

Covid Precautions:  I will be enforcing mask-wearing and social distancing in the classroom until the District informs us otherwise.  I will also open the door & windows for ventilation, and the air purifier will be running.  Bring a sweater/jacket/sweatshirt, so that you can bundle up if necessary!  

If you have symptoms similar to a cold or flu, report your symptoms to the school nurse.  Please report a positive covid test to your house office.

It's possible that some assignments are not on GC -- you will have to check with your teachers when you return to get missed assignments that were not in GC. EL World History:

Last Week:

You finished your map of Europe in 1939, (the start of World War II). 

We covered the start of the war in Western Europe.

You watched a video on the German army's tactic of "blitzkrieg." 

You took notes on the Battle of Britain and the Blitz. You also answered questions on the Battle for Russia. 

This Week:

We'll cover the start of the war in the Pacific, and you will watch a video on the "Path to Pearl Harbor." 

You will have time in class to complete your textbook notes on "War around the World." 

We'll complete a map of Japanese expansion together in class.  


US History:

Last Week:
We covered the internment of Japanese and Japanese Americans living along the West Coast of the US during WWII.   You watched an Edpuzzle video on Japanese internment. 

We reviewed the stages of the Holocaust.  You met in groups to discuss the US response to the Holocaust, and you reported your findings to the class.  You competed a chart showing various segments of the US population responded to the Holocaust. 

This Week: 
You will set up a chart to record evidence about the US decision to develop and use atomic bombs at the end of World War II.  

To get started on this project, you will read an introductory article on the decision to drop the atomic bombs, and begin to fill in your chart. You will also watch a short video that introduces the historical debate on this topic. 

During the rest of the week, you will read additional sources and continue to record the conflicting arguments on your chart.  You will also answer a series of questions about the evidence. 

AP Euro:
If  you are planning to take the AP Exam, you should be reviewing intensively at this point!  If you would like to borrow review materials from my class, check with me to see what's available. 

Last Week:
We reviewed the Chapter 23 SG in class.  You continued working on Chapter 24. 

AP Stuff: One video and a series of MC questions on the 19th century. 

Edpuzzle: The Late British Empire.

I handed out some review sheets for the 19th century. 

DBQ practice: you read and sorted documents related to working-class and middle-class attitudes toward work and its impact on workers.  You wrote a DBQ!  Yay!  

This Week:
We'll discuss the DBQ in class, and you'll have an opportunity to revise. 

Your Chapter 24 SG is due on Tuesday. Let's get the heck out of the 19th century (and into WWI!). 

I posted a Quizlet on New Imperialism. Go through the terms and see how you do. 

AP Vids are posted, along with an Edpuzzle video on Modernism.  

The video on 19th century "isms" was due last Friday. 

I really will lecture on the Nation State.  We also need to do art. 

We'll review the 19th century.  You'll have some time in class to complete review sheets, etc. 

On to WWI!  I'll post the Chapter 25 SG sometime this week.

We reviewed the causes of World War II, and the rise of Hitler.  We discussed the problems in Weimar Germany and what Hitler promised the German people.

Maps: You'll do some map work on Europe in the Interwar period, and during the early days of World War II. 

You'll take notes on the outbreak of the war.

This Week:

Last Week:
On Monday, we reviewed your notes on "War and Civil Rights."  

On Wednesday, you took an open-note quiz on the first part of this unit.  The quiz covered mobilization of the Home Front, and the impact of the war on the civil rights of women and minorities.  If you were absent, see me right away to schedule a makeup. 

Edpuzzle: Japanese Internment.

You completed two review maps: WWII in Europe and Island Hopping in the Pacific.  

This Week: 
We'll cover the internment of Japanese and Japanese Americans living along the West Coast of the US during WWII.   If you haven't watched the Edpuzzle video, now's the time. 

We'll review the stages of the Holocaust, and then focus on the American responses to this terrible event.

We continued our coverage of the Interwar period.

You added more words to your vocabulary notebook, and we had a vocabulary quiz. 

You took textbook notes on the "Rise of Dictators" and tried to understand why so many Germans and Italians supported fascist leaders. 

You watched a video on "Hitler's Germany," and answered questions about the video. 

You had a sub on Friday, and you took notes on "Causes of World War II." 

This Week: 

We'll review the causes of World War II, and the rise of Hitler. What were the problems in Weimar Germany and what did Hitler promise the German people?

Battles on the Home Front -- What is the "Home Front" and how did the US government get Americans involved in the war effort?  You took notes on the propaganda of the war. 

Textbook Notes: Mobilizing the Home Front -- due at block, Feb. 9. 

There were two Edpuzzle videos posted in GC -- One about the Japanese decision to attack the US at Pearl Harbor, and one about the role of women in the war effort. 

Vocabulary Quiz at block!

This Week:

Keep working on Chapter 23.  Nationalism was the great force in the 19th century. How and why did it influence events?  Why was it so appealing to all classes of people and what were the downsides for ethnic minorities?

You read about the "Interwar" period -- the time between World War I and World War II. Why was it called the "Age of Anxiety?"

You took notes and answered questions on the Interwar period, and the rise of dictatorships. 

You added some new (and some review) words to your vocabulary notebook. 

This Week: 

We'll continue our coverage of the Interwar period.

You'll add more words to your vocabulary notebook, and we'll have a vocabulary quiz.

You watched a couple of video clips about the Home Front, and you completed an Edpuzzle on the Rise of Dictatorships.
