EL World History:

Our current unit is World War II.

Last Week:

We are reviewing our vocabulary from the World War II unit every day. Have your white boards and vocabulary notebooks ready!

We began our discussion of the end of  World War II in Europe and Asia.

You completed a set of questions on the end of the war in Europe.

This Week:

We'll continue to review WWII vocabulary.  Quiz on Tuesday.

We will cover the end of the war in the Pacific. You will read about the US decision to use atomic bombs on Japan, and answer questions based on your reading.

You will also read and take Cornell notes on a section of your textbook about the Holocaust (the persecution of Jews by the Nazis).  A form for your notes is posted in Google Classroom.

We will soon begin to review this unit and prepare for a test!  Be sure to study your vocabulary dictionary!

US History:

Current Unit: The Cold War

Last Week:

You completed a quiz on the Early Cold War on Monday/Tuesday. Scores are posted. If you scored below 13 (D or F),  you may do an Edpuzzle video for score improvement.

You watched a video on the Cuban Missile Crisis.  This was due on Wednesday, April 21st, and we reviewed it on Thursday/Friday (slides with questions).

This Week:

We will cover the impact of the Cold War on ordinary Americans living during this tense period of time.

Watch the video on "McCarthyism."

Complete the questions on "Poverty and Plenty" in your textbook. The chapter is posted in GC.

New Video: I've posted a new video on the 1950s.  You will have time to watch this in class.

AP Euro:

AP Exam: The APEH virtual exam is June 2nd at 9:00 am.  I am posting materials to help you prep for the Exam....check the "AP Exam" section NOW for information on how to get ready to take the virtual exam.

Last Week:

We debriefed the LEQ together in class.

If we have time, we will review the development of the nation-state (slides in GC). Again

We reviewed some of the other material posted in GC addressing the aftermath of World War I -- the "War that Changed Everything."  (I strongly recommend the article of this title posted in GC.)  These include slides on border rearrangements, the Weimar Republic, and a short reading and some slides on Stalin's policies during the Interwar period (and a video)

The notable artistic style for this period is Expressionism -- the artist/poet is attempting to express the internal feelings of people.

Video: Spanish Civil War. This crucial event revealed the polarization and the potential for social and political violence of the Interwar period. Make sure you can identify the factions in the conflict. (Who were the "Nationalists" and who were the "Republicans.")  Who supported (or didn't support) them.  Who won and why?

You finished the Ch 26 SG.  You finished the unit 8 videos and any other Interwar videos.

This Week

We're moving on to the outbreak of WWII.  Focus on the conditions that led to the rise of totalitarian dictatorships -- what needs did they meet for people in Germany, Italy and the USSR? What conditions in Japan led to the rise of militaristic nationalism there?

Posted: Slide reviews on WWII in Europe and Asia/Pacific.

Posted: Chapter 26 Review/Test and answer sheet.

Work on the Chapter 27 SG.

AP videos for this week are posted, along with slides on the context for the rise of the Nazis and the outbreak of WWII.  There is an EC video on Japan.

MC Quiz: go to AP Classroom for this quiz, which is composed of Exam-style MC questions.  Each series of questions is clustered around a "stimulus" -- usually a reading passage, although you could get a painting, sculpture or building.  The quiz is due this Friday.

We finally reviewed the development of the nation-state through the 19th century. This review was an example of following a particular theme all the way through the various periods of the AP course. You could do the same with any theme -- gender attitudes, lower-class life and work, military technology, etc. The possibilities are endless.

Content Review: "Review Quizzes" and Sparknotes timelines, posted in GC.
