World Civ:
We reviewed "The Rise of Fascism in Europe." I handed out a new text assignment- "Agressors on the March." I will give you time in class to work on this at block.
We worked together as a class to complete a chart showing the nations of the world headed for war in 1940.
Please bring your books to block.

US History:
Due to excessive pleading from students, the quiz was postoned until block. Instead, we discussed the nature of liberal, conservative and radical responses to the Great Depression. Students worked in class to create a reading outline of an article entitled "President Hoover and the Failure of Conservatism to Ease the Great Depression." I'll stamp this at block if you didn't finish it in class.
The quiz will definitely take place at block! Bring your outlines for "The Crash and its Aftermath" and "The Dream on Hold," as well as your graphs of economic statistics.

APEH:
I handed back the Romanticism papers and the study questions for the second half of Chapter 23.
I will collect the short Internet POV assignment at block.
I will discuss strategies for the Irish famine DBQ at block, if students have at least read the docs and formulated some kind of preliminary plan for themselves. This DBQ will be submitted over turnitin.com early next week (since you have a three-day weekend).
We started a group activity focusing on the development of political parties in the 19th century.
You should have finished reading Chapter 24.
Begin reading Chapter 25, and follow along with the Perry readings.

World Civ:
We discussed the reasons for Hitler's rise in Germany, and looked at a Nazi party propaganda poster. We also watched a video on "Hitler's Germany." If you finished your homework (Fascism Rised in Europe), you have no weekend homework.

US History:
We reviewed the charts showing statistics related to the Great Depression.
We also watched a video on the "Bonus Army."
Your reading outline for "The Dream on Hold" is due on Monday. We'll take an open-note quiz that will cover both reading outlines and the statistics next week.

APEH:
I collected study guide questions for Chapter 23. The Internet POV questions (Ure, Dickens, Engels) are due on Monday. We'll be doing group work in class, so bring your books.
Continue thinking about the Irish DBQ; how will you cluster the documents into paragraphs?

We finished the election of 2020! Both classes elected Earnest Taylor.
The homework assignment "Fascism Rises in Europe" is due on Friday.

US History:
Most people lost their shirts in the stock market, but there were a few winners (mostly those who gambled on Ford Motor).
We reviewed your reading notes on the textbook section entitled "The Crash and its Aftermath."
Reading notes for "The Dream on Hold" are due Monday.
Please bring your books to class on Friday.

APEH:
Study questions for the latter part of Chapter 23 are due Friday.
We reviewed the semester final in class, and started reviewing hub dates for the second semester.
Please bring your books for group work this week and next week!
Read McKay (Chapter 24) and the assigned readings in Perry carefully.

On Monday, we reviewed some of the political and historical terms we covered during the first semester. Save these sheets for future reference!
"A Global Depression" was due on Monday. We reviewed this together; the open-note homework quiz will take place at block.
Text assignment "Fascism Rises" will be due on Friday.

US History:
"The Crash and its Aftermath" is due at block.
We started the Stock Market Game! Some of you are already rich (on paper, at least).

APEH:
Continue readings in McKay and Perry.
The study questions for the latter part of Chapter 23 will be due on Friday.
We'll review the objective portion of the semester final at block.
We'll also begin some group work using the book. Bring books to class!!

At the final, I collected a notebook packet...if you did not hand this material in, you have very little time in which to do so. Get it to me by Wednesday at lunch if you hope to have it graded!

Sorry I was out on Monday...we had a great sub, Mr. Sargeant, who saved the day!

World Civ:
On Monday, the homework "Total War and Allied Victory" was due, and the sub reviewed it on the overhead. Your short essay on a topic related to WWI was also due.

At block, we reviewed Wilson's Fourteen Points, and the Treaty of Versailles. Students took an open-note quiz on the assignment entitled "The Allies Meet at Versailles."
I showed a series of WWI propaganda slides, and students took notes.

Thursday and Friday will be review days.

US History:
On Monday, students took an open-note quiz on "Postwar Turmoil."

At block, we reviewed the assignment on the "Jazz Age."
I gave a short lecture on government and politics in the Twenties.
Students watched and took notes on a video about the Tulsa Race Riot of 1921.
Due Thursday: "The Harlem Renaissance."

APEH:
Students had time on Monday to work on their fill-in study guides and the Romanticism project.

At block, I lectured on British politics in the late 18th to mid-19th centuries, and reviewed the importance of liberalism, nationalism and socialism for this era.
Students were allowed to retake the 1810 map test for a maximum of 8 points.
I handed out a map of Congress Europe, and listed some identifying factors to help students recognize a map of this period.
I handed out the essay questions that will be on the semester final. Remember that I will eliminate one of the questions on the day of the final, so you will need to prep for two of the questions.
We have the library reserved for Thursday and Friday to complete the Romanticism project.
Your fill-in study guide is due on Thursday. You must either bring 30 copies (be sure there's a key!), or put the document on a disk, so it can be uploaded onto a website.

We took some notes on why the US entered the war on the Allied side, and watched a little of "Young Indiana Jones in the Trenches of Hell."
Due Monday: Writing assignment based on Internet WWI research.
Due at Block: "The Allies Meet at Versailles."

US History:
Students took notes on a series of slides on life in America during the 1920s.
I handed out a reading entitled "The Jazz Age." Answers to the questions on this reading are due at block next week.
Due Monday: "Postwar Turmoil."

APEH:
Students handed in the Study Guide for Chapter 22.
We worked in the library on the "Romanticism" project.
Study Guide for Chapter 23 is due Monday; Fill-in-the-blank study guides are due on Thursday.

I handed out the review sheet for the semester final exam.
I stamped "Total War and Allied Victory."
We read together an article about US reasons for entering WWI.
Students then completed a worksheet entitled "Congress Declares War." We reviewed this in class.
Assignment: "The Allies Meet at Versailles." This is due at block next week.
Your writing assignment based on your internet research is due on Monday, Jan. 10.

US History:
Be sure to make up the unit test if you missed it, and hand in the notebook packet.
Today, we analyzed several political cartoons about the League of Nations.
Students took a sheet of lecture notes on the 1920s.
Due Monday: "Postwar Turmoil."

APEH:
I handed back the essays on the 18th century, and we discussed them.
Students chose topics for creating fill-in-the-blank review sheets...these should be similar to the sample on Italy and Spain that I gave you. These are due next Thursday.
If the Internet is up, we'll go to the library to work on Romanticism on Friday.
The Study Guide for Chapter 22 is due Friday.

World Civ:
We spent the block period in the computer lab, researching various aspects of WWI and playing the "Trench Warfare Game."
The writing assignment for this computer research is due on Monday, Jan. 10 (250-300 words, typed, double-spaced, 12 pt. font, one-inch margins).
Due Thursday: Total War and Allied Victory.

US History:
At block, we took the test on the Foreign Policy unit.
Our next unit is on the "Interwar Years."
I handed out a textbook assignment entitled "Postwar Turmoil." This is due on Monday, Jan. 10; there will be an open-note homework quiz that day.

APEH:
Students took the test on the FrenchRevolution and Napoleon, filled in a map of Europe in 1810, and wrote an essay on the causes of the French Revolution.
I collected the Study Guides for Chapter 21, and handed out a fill-in review sheet for Italy and Spain. Bring your books to class, as you will be creating similar fill-in sheets for your fellow students to use for review.
The Study Guide for Chapter 22 is due at the end of this week, and the Study Guide for Chapter 23 (partial) is due next week. The semester final covers the McKay text through page 777 (it does not include the Revolutions of 1848).
