 Important Information for All Students: 

Spring Break is April 1st (tomorrow) through April 11th. You are back in school on the 12th.

Late Work:  Late work may be eligible for partial credit.  Check with me in advance for approval to do late work from previous units.   Focus on recent work -- the current unit.  Please do not turn in late work from previous units if you have missing work from the current unit

Our current unit is World War II.  

Last Week:  

You took a vocabulary quiz on Tuesday.  

You finished "War around the World." Your notes were due on Friday. 

On Tuesday, we discussed the Battle of Britain and the Blitz.  You also watched an Edpuzzle video on this topic, and answered the questions that accompanied the video. 

You started working on a series of maps about WWII in Europe

This Week: Orientation:

You will be on campus (unless you have decided to stay remote): A group will attend on Monday and B group will attend on Wednesday. 

I will assign a set of slides with questions on the Battle for Russia. 

Finish up all work for this unit that you have not yet completed. 


US History:  

Current Unit: The Cold War

Last Week: 

I showed some slides to introduce the context for the Cold War -- the devastation of Europe and Asia that followed World War II.  You took notes, and turned them in at the end of the period. 

You watched a video on "containment," the US policy toward communism during the Cold War.  NOTE: You must watch the videos all the way to the end to get a score in Google Classroom. If you don't watch all the way to the end, NO SCORE will appear in GC, and I will give you a zero. 

Textbook reading notes "The Cold War Begins."  The textbook chapter is posted in GC. Due Friday, March 26. 

This Week: 

We'll debrief the Unit Test (WWII) and discuss the atomic bomb assignment. 

Watch the Edpuzzle video on the Berlin Airlift.  It's due on Wednesday, March 31st. 

Finish up any recent assignments on the Cold War and turn them in.

AP Daily Videos are posted in GC; they are all related to WWI and the Russian Revolution.  These are all part of Unit 8 in AP Classroom. 

There also an EC video on WWI in Edpuzzle. It's animated, but has good information. 

This Week: 

The focus for this short week is the Russian Revolution and Lenin.  

Slides and videos are posted.  How did Lenin alter Marxist ideas to make them suit a Russian context that was not yet fully industrialized, and in which the vast majority of people were not factory workers but peasants?  

Start reading Chapter 26.  Questions for the first part of the SG are posted. 

I posted a review of the outbreak of WWII.  Other things you will find in GC: A comparison of liberalism and socialism (in the Resources section); some seriously depressing postwar poetry, and a short reading on Stalin's purges in the Interwar period. 

I will also post a writing topic to keep you thinking over spring break.

All the materials on the decision to drop the atomic bombs were due on Friday, March 19th. This includes the video, the background reading, the primary/secondary sources and the chart. 

You took the unit test on Thursday/Friday last week.

We wrapped up the 19th century

I lectured on the Irrational. 

Things you should have finished: "19th Century Thinkers and Ideas."  The 19th century review sheets (EC).  Chapter 24 SG.  The Chapter 22 Test/Review.  

I posted the Chapter 23 & 24 Test/Review, and an answer sheet. 

There were two videos on the approach of WWI.  One was in AP Classroom, and the other in Edpuzzle.  

The Chapter 25 SG was posted. WWI was the cataclysmic transition between the old and new Europe.  It changed everything, but resolved nothing.  It forced changes in the societies and governments of European nations. It set the stage for WWII, and the transformation to post-imperial Europe.
