US History
1. We read a timeline and article on the current nuclear crisis with North Korea; we analyzed a political cartoon.
2. Students worked on a map and questions about the Korean War -- these are due at the block period.
3. Reminder: open-note quiz on "Cold War Begins" and "Cold War Deepens" at the block period this week.

World Civilizations
1. I handed back students' political cartoon write-ups, and provided students with a sheet of sample answers.
2. We reviewed the answers to "Totalitarianism Part I."
3. We read and highlighted a selection on Stalin's purges of the 1930s.
4. I handed out a textbook assignment entitled "Cold War." Answers are due on Thursday.
5. Reminder: open-note quiz on "Totalitarianism Parts I and II" at the block period this week.

1. We watched and took notes on a video on the Cold War.
2. Reminder: the outline for the textbook section "The Cold War Deepens" is due at the block period next week. We'll take an open note quiz on both outlines ("The Cold War Begins" and "The Cold War Deepens") during the block period.

World Civilizations
1. Students took lecture notes on "Stalin and the Revolution from Above."
2. We finished watching and taking notes on the video biography on the life of Joseph Stalin.
3. Answers to the assignment "Totalitarianism Part II" are due at the block period next week; we'll take an open note quiz on both parts of the assignment on Totalitarianism.

3. I gave a lecture on basic Cold War events.

1. I stamped the homework assignment entitled "Totalitarianism Part I."
2. We reviewed the fill-in-the-blanks review quiz on Russia up to the Revolution.
3. Students started watching and taking notes on a video on the life of Joseph Stalin.
4. "Totalitarianism Part II" is due at the block period next week.

Block Periods, Tuesday, March 25 and Wednesday, March 26

US History
1. We wrapped up the WWII unit by completing a chart on the US response to the Holocaust.
2. I collected a packet of work from students' notebooks.
3. We started our unit on the Cold War by brainstorming some facts about the Cold War era and reviewing a map of Europe.
4. We started a chart and discussion about the ideological divisions between the US and the Soviet Union during the period of the Cold War.
5. PowerPoint presentations are due on Thursday, March 27.

World Civilizations
1. Students wrote a three-level analysis of a political cartoon about North Korea.
2. We reviewed "Revolutions in Russia Part II."
3. Students worked on a fill-in-the-blanks review sheet entitled "Prelude to the Russian Revolution."
4. I handed out two textbook assignments: "Totalitarianism Part I" and "Totalitarianism Part II." Part I is due on Thursday of this week, and Part II is due at the block period next week.

2. I handed out the scoring rubric for the PowerPoint presentation on WWII. The due date for the project has been postponed to March 27 (Thursday). We will spend another period in the computer lab on Monday, March 24.
3. We started a review of the Holocaust.

World Civilizations
1. We finished the video notes on "The Last Tsar."
2. I stamped "Revolutions Part I."
3. We used political cartoons as the basis for a discussion of events in Iraq.

3. We watched part of a video on the last Tsar of Russia, Nicholas II, and how his reign ended.

1. The class debated Truman's decision to drop atomic bombs on Japan.
2. Students need an IBM formatted floppy disc for tomorrow's PowerPoint project. We will be working in the computer lab to create a presentation on WWII. This presentation will be due on Monday, March 24.

World Civilizations
1. Students took an open-note quiz on the Growth of Russia.
2. I gave the class some notes and terms to add to their homework on the Growth of Russia.
3. I assigned two textbook reading guides: Revolutions Part I and Revolutions Part II. Part I is due on Thursday, March 20, and Part II is due on Monday, March 24.

1. We continued to watch the video "Decision to Drop the Bomb." We discussed the arguments presented in the video, and students wrote answers to questions about these arguments.
2. On Monday, we will debate Truman's decision. Please come prepared to offer a comment or opinion to the class.

World Civilizations
1. I stamped the assignment "Growth of Russia." We'll take an open-note quiz on this assignment on Monday, March 17.
2. Students worked in class to complete a map of the Russian Empire in 1914. I'll stamp this map on Monday, if you didn't finish it today.

1. Students suggested more additions to our chart of arguments for/against dropping the bomb.
2. We started a video on the decision to drop the bomb.
3. We'll hold our in-class debate on Truman's decision on Monday, March 17.

World Civilizations
1. We started our unit on Russia. I handed out an reading and questions entitled "The Growth of Russia." Answers are due on Friday, March 13.
2. We read an article on the current crisis with North Korea, and discussed a political cartoon.

Don't forget: Tuesday is a minimum day, and there are not block periods or tutorial this week! No school Friday, March 14.


US History
1. We wrapped up our discussion of Japanese internment.
2. I handed out a set of readings on the decision to drop the atomic bomb. Students had time to work in class -- we'll finish these on Tuesday.
3. We will gather information on the atomic bomb, then have a class debate on whether Truman made the right decision in dropping two atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. I want everyone to participate in the debate, which will probably take place on Monday, March 17.

World Civilizations
1. We watched a short video on the Nuremberg war crime trials, and discussed problems associated with war crimes trials.
2. Students took a page of lecture notes on the judgement at Nuremberg.

1. We discussed the critical thinking questions regarding Japanese internment during WWII.
2. I introduced some vocabulary terms and concepts related to the Japanese-American community, and we watched portions of a video entitled "Rabbit in the Moon."

1. We finished "Schindler's List" and discussed the last two entries in the Schindler Journal. The completed journal is due on Monday, March 10.
2. Students took a page of lecture notes on the aftermath of the Holocaust.

2. We will take an open-note homework quiz during the block periods this week. The quiz will cover two outlines: "Mobilizing the Homefront" and "The War and Civil Rights."3. Students were placed in groups to work on presentations showing how WWII impacted various American social groups. We will finish these presentations during the block period.

1. I stamped entry #2 in the Schindler Journal. Entry #3 is due at the block period this week.
