Week of Nov. 27 to Dec. 1

 Information for All Students: 

Three weeks until finals. Check your grades in Aeries and do your best to have a strong finish to the semester. Get your binder in order, so you can study for the final. 

Schedule for this week: Both Trojan Times are open. Make appointments for Tuesday and Wednesday.

Remember that TT is an academic period -- you must bring some schoolwork to do during TT.  If you don't have any work, bring a book to read.  You should not plan to spend the time gaming or chatting with friends. 


EL World History 

We started our unit on World War I just before the Thanksgiving break. We'll continue this week, focusing on the causes of the war. 

 We'll cover the outbreak of the war and the alliances.

You'll complete a map of the war. 

You'll add new vocabulary to your notebook.

US History

We started a new unit on Foreign Policy just before the Thanksgiving break. We'll continue this week, focusing on types of foreign policy. We'll analyze some US foreign policy actions. 

Before the break, you took textbook notes on "Reaching for Empire." We'll use an open-note quiz to review these notes -- we can do this at block period. 

Textbook Notes: "Becoming a World Power."  Due on Friday, Dec. 1st. 

We'll discuss the concept of "manifest destiny," and how it influenced US foreign policy at the end of the 19th century. 

If we have time, we'll begin our coverage of an important US foreign policy development in the late 19th century: the Spanish-American war and the annexation of the Philippine Islands.

Week of Nov. 13 to Nov. 17

 Information for All Students: 

Thursday, November 9 was the end of the 2nd quarter progress report period.  Grades will be transmitted to the office on November 13.  See me if you have questions about your grade.

EL World History 

We'll review the new political and economic ideas that arose during the Industrial Revolution.  

Quiz: New Ideas. At block period. 

We'll review this unit and take the unit test on Thursday or Friday.  I will also check your binder at that time. 

Edpuzzle Video: The Industrial Revolution. If you haven't watched this yet, do it this week. 

Next Unit: World War I. 


US History

You'll finish your research on a person from the Progressive Era, and prepare a resume for that person. You will be sharing your resume with your classmates during block period.

NOTE: you MUST have a printed resume to participate in the class activity at block period.  

Slide Notes: The Progressives.  Use the worksheet you received in class to take notes on the slide presentation. 

We'll review for this unit (crossword puzzle) and take the unit test on Thursday or Friday.  Be prepared to hand in material from your binder on the day of the test.

Week of Nov. 6 to Nov. 9

Information for All Students:

EL World History 

You'll get more vocabulary words, and you'll take a vocabulary quiz. 

We'll continue to discuss the problems that resulted from the Industrial Revolution, and the different ways that people tried to solve the problems, including labor unions and new laws. 

We'll cover some of the new ideas that arose during this period.

US History

We'll analyze some political cartoons on Americans' attitudes toward immigration during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. 

We'll transition from our focus on immigration to our coverage of the Progressive Movement of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. 

We'll start with a primary source by a "muckraker" author: The Jungle by Upton Sinclair. 

You'll be researching a person from the Progressive Era, and preparing a resume for that person. You will be sharing your resume with your classmates.
