Week of Sept. 25 to Sept. 29

 Information for All Students: 

Schedule for this week: Tuesday's TT is open, but Wednesday is closed.

On Wednesday, you'll take a reading assessment and prepare for the PSAT.  You MUST have your school-issued chromebook.  If your chromebook is not working, take it to the bookroom and get a replacement. 

Remember that TT is an academic period -- you must bring some schoolwork to do during TT.  If you don't have any work, bring a book to read.  You should not plan to spend the time gaming or chatting with friends. 


EL World History 

We'll continue our preview of the French Revolution.  

You'll be adding some new words to your vocabulary notebook. 

You'll take notes on the situation in France before the Revolution, the absolute monarchy of Louis XIV (the Sun King), and the "Three Estates." 

We are focusing on the causes of the French Revolution.

US History

If you missed Monday's unit test (Expansion of the USA), see me ASAP to arrange a makeup.  

We're moving into our new unit on the Civil War. 

You'll complete some preview activities.

You'll read and annotate an introductory reading and make a chart of sectionalism. 

We'll focus on the moral and political conflict over slavery, and the crucial events leading to the Civil War.

EL World History 

You took the big Social Studies Vocabulary quiz on Friday, Sept. 15.  

Your paragraph on "The Wisest Philosopher" was due last Monday. See me as soon as possible to make up any missed work. 

We'll review our "Rise of Democracy" unit on Monday. 

Unit test on Tuesday. 

New Unit: The French Revolution!  


US History

If you missed the unit test on "Colonies to Constitution" or you wanted to do test corrections, your window of opportunity was last week (Trojan Time).  

On block day last week, you had an "open-note" quiz on your Cornell notes for pages 130 - 135 (Territorial Expansion of the US).  If you were absent for the quiz, make a TT appointment to make it up this week. 

This week, we'll try to finish the Expansion unit, and head into the Civil War.  

On Monday, you'll take notes on Early US Policies. 

You will complete a map and chart showing the various territories that were added to the US.  

If we have time, we'll discuss the response of the Nez Perce Indians, led by Chief Joseph, to the US decision to remove the Nez Perce from their lands in Oregon.

Week of Sep. 11 to Sep. 15

Progress Reports: Friday, Sep. 8 was the end of the 1st quarter progress report period. Progress report grades will be transmitted to the office on Wednesday, Sep. 13.  See me asap if you have questions about your grade.

EL World History 

Your paragraph on "The Wisest Philosopher" is due on Monday, Sep. 11. 

We will focus on the rise of democracy, and the important developments of the Scientific Revolution and the Enlightenment. 

This will lead us into our new unit on the French Revolution, an important Enlightenment event. 

You will take a quiz on Basic Social Studies Vocabulary, #1 to #6. 


US History

You took the unit test on "Colonies to Constitution" on Friday, Sep. 8 (and you handed in a packet of materials from your binder).  If you missed the test, come to TT this week to make it up.  If you did not have your binder on Friday, I will accept the work on Monday, but I will deduct points from the total score. 

Test Corrections: If you received a test score below 27 (C), you may do test corrections. Maximum score for the retake is 27.  Make a TT appointment on Tuesday or Wednesday. Bring your binder. 

We are starting a new unit on the Expansion of the United States.  You should have a new divider in your binder. 

Cornell Notes: "Territorial Expansion of the USA," pages 130 to 135 in the American Odyssey textbook (posted in GC) -- Due at block period. 

We will begin discussing how the US grew to it's current size, including large scale migration and conflicts with the Native Americans. 

This week's Edpuzzle is "Indian Removal."

Week of Sep. 5 to Sep. 8

Schedule for this week: Tuesday TT is open; Wednesday is closed.

I'll check in with everyone when I return on Tuesday to find out how much you got done with Ms. Lum, who seems to think you are all outstanding students. 


EL World History 

We'll add more Social Studies vocabulary terms to your vocabulary dictionaries. 

We'll be focusing on democracy.

Philosophers of Government: What philosophers had ideas about government that still influence us today?  You'll learn about major political philosophers this week, and you'll take a quiz on the philosophers and types of government. 

Paragraph: The Wisest Philosopher. 


US History

Together, we will review the work you did with the sub last week.  

We'll also backtrack a bit to discuss the Declaration of Independence. 

We want to move on to our next unit on the Expansion of the United States.  So...be ready for a quiz on Friday.
