Week of Jan. 29 to Feb. 2

 Schedule for this week: Both TTs are open this week. Make appointments for Tuesday and Wednesday.  

Third Quarter Progress Report period ends Friday, February 2. 

 Program Planning: Return your completed program request sheets to your Closed Trojan Time teacher. 

ROP Tours take place on Tuesday -- mostly sophomores and a few juniors. Check with me for missed work if you are going on the trip.

Remember that TT is an academic period -- you must bring some schoolwork to do during TT.  If you don't have any work, bring a book to read.  You should not plan to spend the time gaming or chatting with friends.

Review Quiz: Alliances of World War II!

You'll finish your notes and chart on the causes of World War II.  

More WWII vocabulary!

We'll cover expansionism by Germany, Italy and the USSR, and the start of WWII.

We'll review "Crash and Its Aftermath" part 2, and also review the graphs of economic statistics during the period leading up to the Great Depression (the Twenties). 

We'll cover the impact of the Great Depression on various groups of Americans, including veterans of World War I.

Week of Jan. 22 to Jan. 26

 Schedule for this week: Tuesday's TT is open -- make an appointment.  Juniors can make an appointment with Ms. Zuckerbrow for a college planning workshop. 

 Program Planning: Wednesday TT is closed. There will be presentation about your classes for next year. You will receive a copy of your transcript and a schedule request form. 

On Thursday or Friday (Juniors) or next Monday (Sophomores), counselors will be visiting Social Studies classes in person to answer any questions you have about your class choices/decisions for your senior year.  Discuss your class selections with your parents/guardians and teachers, so you will be ready to make good programming choices. 

ROP Tours take place on January 30.  Students in 10th and 11th grade may apply.  Applications are due to the College and Career Center by this Thursday (Jan. 25). 

There will be an emergency drill on Thursday. We will NOT evacuate; we'll stay in the room and discuss emergency procedures. The drill will take place in your 3d period class. Recent update on this drill: There is NO change to the schedule.

EL World History

We'll (again) review these terms: Totalitarianism, Fascism, Communism

You'll have time to work on the maps in Google Classroom.  These maps will help you understand the beginning of World War II. 

More WWII vocabulary!

We'll cover the rise of Adolf Hitler.  Why did so many Germans support him?  What was it like to live in Germany once Hitler and his Nazi Party took over?

US History

Last Friday, we finished our short unit on the Twenties.  You took a quiz and handed in a binder packet.  If you missed the quiz, make an appointment for Tuesday's Trojan Time. 

New Unit: The Great Depression and the New Deal. 

Textbook Notes: The Crash and Its Aftermath Part I (pp. 417 to 422) and Part II (pp. 423 to 427). 

We will cover the stock market.  What is it? How does it work?  What do we mean when we say that the market rose or fell?  

You will create and interpret graphs of economic statistics during the period leading up to the Great Depression (the Twenties).

 Schedule for this week: Tuesday's TT is open -- make an appointment. Wednesday is closed. There's some kind of reading assessment.  

Semester grades were submitted on Wednesday, Jan. 10.  In Aeries, go to "past terms" to see your grades for 2nd quarter and 1st semester.  See me if you have questions.

If you want to re-take the vocabulary quiz (basic WWII terms), come to Trojan Time on Tuesday. 

We'll continue our coverage of the Interwar period, including the rise of dictators such as Mussolini and Adolf Hitler in Europe, and the militarist government of Japan.

We'll continue our discussion of the Harlem Renaissance.  You should have finished your reading outline in class on Friday.  We will analyze the the poems together. 

Tulsa Race Riot/Massacre of 1921. What does this incident tell us about the state of race relations in the Twenties? 

Presidents of the Twenties. This was a conservative era! Who were the presidents of the Twenties and what were their policies?

Week of Jan. 9 to Jan. 12

Welcome Back!   

Schedule for this week: There are no block periods this week, and no TTs.  Tuesday is a "modified regular" day -- you have all 6 periods, but school is out at 2:30.  Wednesday, Thursday and Friday are "regular" days -- you have all 6 periods, and school is out at 3:35. 

Monday, January 15 is MLK Day. No school.

New seats!  We'll reorganize binders, and I'll answer any questions you have about your grades. 

We'll start our new unit on World War II. 

We'll review the end of World War I, and focus on the causes of World War II.

New vocabulary!

Quiz:  Basic vocabulary terms for World War I -- Types of government and policies. 

You'll take notes on the Interwar period and the problems faced by various countries. 

You'll study some maps of the interwar period, and answer some questions about the maps.
