Week of Mar. 27 to Mar. 30

 Important Information for All Students: 

This is a 4- day week -- you have Friday off, and the following week is Spring Break.  

Schedule:  Both TTs are open. Make appointments. 

Trojan Time Calendar (Updated)

Class Expectations: Please come to class on time every day, with your computer, binder, paper and pen/pencil.  Your computer should be charged, or you should have your charger with you. (Most teachers do NOT have "extra" chargers.) Please turn your phone off and put it away at the beginning of the period. 

Many assignments will be posted in Google Classroom, but others will be distributed in class.  If you are absent, email me to see whether I have a GC version of work that you missed.  Check Aeries for your current grade. Aeries is the official gradebook. 

If you have an excused absence, see me to get your work stamped and arrange any needed makeups when you return to school.

Last Week:

You took notes and answer questions on Germany's invasion of Russia

We covered the Japanese attack on the United States, and the entry of the US into the war. 

This Week:

We'll review the work we've covered so far in our WWII unit.

US History

Last Week: 

You completed an SAQ on the US decision to use atomic bombs on Japan. 

Unit test on WWII at block period. You handed in a binder packet. 

We started our coverage of US involvement in the Cold War.

This Week:

Notes: The Cold War Continues

Edpuzzle: The Berlin Airlift.  

There's also an optional (EC) Edpuzzle on the Korean War. 

We'll cover the Korean War, and analyze primary sources by President Truman and General Douglas MacArthur.

Last Week: 
AP Vids are posted.  We need to get out of WWII before the break. 

The Chapter 24 SG will be due at block.

There is an Edpuzzle on "La Belle Epoque." 

I will post the Chapter 25 SG.  I'll provide review handouts for WWI. 

POV comparison: Clemenceau vs. The German Delegation -- there is a form for this in Google Classroom. 

This Week: 
We'll continue with WWI.

Two new AP Vids and 5 MCQs are posted. 

I'll lecture on the background and the outbreak of the war. We also have to do the Russian Revolution.

You completed a chart of the "Nations at War." 

You reviewed the events leading to the start of the war.

This Week:

Be ready for quizzes on vocabulary and the map or WWII in Europe.

Last Week: 

You took notes on the end of the war in the Pacific, and the US decision to drop atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. 

You read and analyzed a series of sources about the US decision to build and use atomic bombs at the end of WWII.  The sources included some general background information, as well as some sources that take strong positions for or against the use of the bombs.  You used your chart to keep track of the evidence/arguments. 

You worked on a crossword puzzle review of WWII. 

Edpuzzle: Nuclear Bombings of Japan

This Week: 

On Monday, you will complete an SAQ on the US decision to use atomic bombs on Japan. 

Unit test on WWII at block period. You will hand in a binder packet. 

We'll start our coverage of US involvement in the Cold War.

AP MCQ questions were posted in AP classroom. There are 8 sets of questions related to the 19th century. 

You completed most of the Chapter 24 SG. This is the last chapter covering the looooong 19th century.

We tried some practice LEQ thesis statements. 

You outlined a practice DBQ on middle class and working class attitudes toward work.

Schedule:  Freshmen, sophomores and juniors will attend the ASB forum on Monday, March 13. Come to class first, so I can take attendance. 

Thursday and Friday are "modified" days.  Periods are a little shorter than usual and school is out at 2:30.

US History

Last Week: 

We covered the internment of Japanese and Japanese-Americans on the West Coast after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. 

If you were unable to watch the video on Japanese internment, you received an "NA" in Aeries. If you watched it in Youtube and sent me an email, I will enter a score of 4 in Aeries. 

We covered US response to the Holocaust during WWII, including an Edpuzzle vid. 

At the end of the week, you set up a chart to collect information about the US decision to build and use atomic bombs at the end of World War II. 

This Week:

You will begin reading and analyzing a series of sources about the US decision to build and use atomic bombs at the end of WWII.  This will include some general background information, as well as some sources that take strong positions for or against the use of the bombs.  You will use your chart to keep track of the evidence/arguments. 

Once you finish your research, you will complete a writing assignment on the US decision to use the bombs.

AP European History

Last Week:

We reviewed the Chapter 22 SG. 

You outlined an LEQ topic on family structure and gender roles during the IR. 

We continued our coverage of late 19th century topics.  This included unification of Germany and the Dreyfus affair. 

AP Vids were posted.  There were a couple of Edpuzzle vids as well, dealing with the unification of Germany and Italy. 

You handed in the Chapter 23 SG. 

This Week: 
AP MCQ questions are posted in AP classroom. There are 9 sets of questions related to the 19th century. 

We will push through the Chapter 24 SG. This is the last chapter covering the looooong 19th century.  This chapter deals with European expansion, including out-migration and colonization. 

You should be finishing up the chart of 19th century people and ideas. It's due at the same time as the Ch 24 SG. 

Lecture topics: new imperialism, the irrational, the rise of the nation-state.  We will also need to return art -- "modern" art.

Notes: The Rise of Hitler.  We explored the rise of Adolph Hitler in Germany, and tried to understand why many Germans supported him.  

You analyzed a political cartoon and annotated a handout on Hitler's promises to the German people. What did he offer them? 

Edpuzzle Video: The Path to Pearl Harbor.   

You started work on a chart of the "Causes of World War II."  Your sources: your textbook, your binder, and the materials posted in GC. 

This Week: 

You will finish the chart of "Causes of World War II," and you will write a paragraph on this topic. 

More vocabulary words.

Last Week: 

Makeups of the unit test on the Great Depression and New Deal should be complete.

You finished "War and Civil Rights," and we reviewed it in class.

AP European History

Last Week:
We reviewed the Chapter 21 SG. 

I'll continue our 19th century lectures -- we're in the mid to late 19th century now.  Nineteenth Century Russia and Victorian Britain.

We reviewed terms related to socialism, and annotated a tree diagram about the influence of socialism and revisionist socialism.

There is an Edpuzzle on 19th Century Socialism.  There was also an EC Edpuzzle on the Unification of Italy.

Your turned in the Chapter 22 SG.  

The SG for Chapter 23 was posted.  The first set of questions was stamped; second section is due on Tuesday, 3-7.   Nationalism is a huge issue for the 19th century!

You got into groups to discuss some sample LEQ topics.  

This Week:
We'll continue our coverage of late 19th century topics.  This will include the unification of Germany, the Dreyfus Affair, the rise of irrationalism, and the "Belle Epoque."

We'll de-brief the LEQ topics and maybe write one.
