Week of Feb. 27 to Mar. 3

Important Information for All Students: 

Schedule:  Nothing special this week. 

Trojan Times: Tuesday is closed.  Wednesday is open -- make an appointment. 

Missed Finals (and other issues): Any changes to your semester I grade should have been made by Feb. 17th.

Class Expectations: Please come to class on time every day, with your computer, binder, paper and pen/pencil.  Your computer should be charged, or you should have your charger with you. (Most teachers do NOT have "extra" chargers.) Please turn your phone off and put it away at the beginning of the period. 

Many assignments will be posted in Google Classroom, but others will be distributed in class.  If you are absent, email me to see whether I have a GC version of work that you missed.  Check Aeries for your current grade. Aeries is the official gradebook. 

If you have an excused absence, see me to get your work stamped and arrange any needed makeups when you return to school. 

COVID Precautions:  Masks are available in the front office. 


CLASSES

EL World History

Last Week: 

We reviewed the context of World War II, and examined the causes of the war. 

New vocabulary words! 

You took notes on the "Interwar" period -- the 20 year period between World War I and World War II. 

This Week: 

We will discuss the rise of Adolph Hitler in Germany.  

Question: Why did the German people follow Hitler? What did he offer them? 

You will get a new set of WWII vocabulary words. 

Edpuzzle Video: The Path to Pearl Harbor.   


US History

Last Week: 

On Monday, you took the unit test on the Great Depression and the New Deal, and hand in a packet from your binder. 

We started our coverage of World War II.  (New Divider!)

You brainstormed to see how much you remember  about WWII from your World History class last year. 

We reviewed the causes of WWII and also some WWII vocabulary (Vocab Quz). 

Lecture: Battles on the Home Front.

Textbook Notes: Mobilizing the Home Front.   You will also complete a second set of textbook notes (War and Civil Rights) and then take an open-note quiz.  Take good notes!

Edpuzzle: Roots of World War II. 

This Week: 

I'll return your GD/New Deal binder packet and your brochure. 

We'll review "Mobilizing the Home Front." 

You should finish "War and Civil Rights."  

O-N Quiz: Mobilizing the HF and War and Civil Rights. 

Maps: WWII in Europe 1939-1940; Island Hopping. 

Note on Edpuzzle videos: As I have mentioned in class, I'm deleting the links for Edpuzzle videos after 2-3 weeks.  The videos are intended as reinforcement of material currently being covered in class. You should plan to complete the videos during the time that we are covering the relevant subject matter in class.  


AP European History

Week before Pres. Day:
We continued our 19th century topics.  We should get through 1848, Louis Napoleon Bonaparte, and Ireland, Ausgleich, Crimea.  

AP Vids were posted. 

Edpuzzles: Optional: The Revolutions of 1830.  Not optional: The Revolutions of 1848. 

You took an AP-style MC test in class on Industrialization.  We'll do this in class, using the AP Classroom website.  

You finished the Chapter 21 SG this week, and move to Chapter 22 over the President's Day break. 

Pres. Day Week: 
Chapter 22 SG.  This should be completed by Tuesday, Feb. 28.

This Week:
We'll review the Chapter 21 SG. 

I'll continue our 19th century lectures -- we're in the mid to late 19th century now.

The SG for Chapter 23 is posted.  I'll assign questions on Tuesday. 

AP Daily Vids: AP Videos should be watched during the week they are assigned.  If you want to watch old videos (or complete any work that is more than a couple of weeks old) you will need to communicate with me in advance for my approval.

Week of Feb. 13 to Feb. 17

 Important Information for All Students: 

Schedule:  Next week is "Presidents' Week."  There is no school Feb. 20 to Feb. 24.

Missed Finals (and other issues): Any grade changes for 1st semester must be submitted by this Friday, February 17th.  This includes clearing up any "Incomplete" grade that you received.  Check Aeries and see your teachers to resolve your outstanding issues!

Last Week: 

We wrapped up WWI, including the Treaty of Versailles. 

We reviewed the changes in the map of Europe, and we also reviewed the vocabulary from this unit. 

You took the unit test on Friday, and I did a binder check.  You created a new binder section for World War II. 

You started on a couple of review sheets to help you understand the context for WWII. 

This Week:

We'll go over the context of World War II, and examine the causes of the war. 

New vocabulary words!

You learned about various New Deal programs -- what groups they were meant to aid, and why some people opposed FDR's programs. 

You researched a program and create a brochure explaining it to the American public. 

You got into groups and shared your brochure, and took notes on 3 additional programs.

I started a series of Nineteenth Century lectures.  We got through the Revolutions of 1830 and started on 1848.

Week of Feb. 6 to Feb. 10

Important Information for All Students: 

Progress Report Grades: Third Quarter Progress Report grades will be submitted to the office by Tuesday evening. Check your grade in Aeries for all classes, and talk with teachers to arrange makeups if needed. 

Trojan Times: Tuesday is closed.  Wednesday is open. Make an appointment. 

Missed Finals: If you were unable to come to the final exam due to illness (or another reason excused by the office), you will receive an "Incomplete" for the 2nd quarter and also for the 1st semester.  You will need to make an appointment with me to make up the missing work (the exam and any work that was due at the time of the exam).  If you do not make up the work, school policy is that the "Incomplete" reverts to an F. If you had a passing grade, designations will be changed to reflect your grade with the final exam and final binder check calculated as zeroes.

Last Week: 

We had a vocabulary quiz and a map quiz on Monday. 

You had time in class to complete your textbook notes. 

We covered the entry of the United States into the war. 

You got one more set of WWI vocabulary words. 

We started our coverage of the end of the war, and the Treaty of Versailles. 

This Week:

We'll wrap up the war and start our review. 

We will review the changes in the map of Europe, and we'll also review the vocabulary from this unit. 

We should be ready for a test by Friday. 

US History

Last Week: 

You stayed in groups to complete your notes on "The Dream on Hold." Your goal was to identify the ways in which the Great Depression impacted various demographic groups (families, tenant farmers, Mexican Americans, etc.)

You took a big an open-note quiz, using all of the material you've created so far in this unit. 

We moved on to our coverage of Franklin Delano Roosevelt and the New Deal. 

Edpuzzle: The New Deal

This Week:

You'll learn about various New Deal programs -- what groups they were meant to aid, and why some people opposed FDR's programs. 

You'll research a program and create a brochure explaining it to the American public. 

We'll wrap up this unit and take a test. 

No Edpuzzle This Week (if I find a good one, it will be EC).

Last Week
Chapter 20 SG was due.  I stamped the remaining Review Questions on Monday.

Lecture notes: Overview: The Industrial Revolution. 

HUGE set of slides on the Agricultural and Industrial Revolution.  We may review some of these in class. 

Focus on the transformation of the economy and the consequent transformation of work, social classes, cities, lifestyles, family life, etc. 

AP Vids were posted. 

There is an optional Edpuzzle on Romanticism.  We started discussing Romanticism in class. 

This Week: 
I'll start marching through an almost endless series of Nineteenth Century lectures. Be prepared.
