Week of 11-28 to 12-2

 Important Information for All Students: 

Schedule: Tuesday's TT is closed. Wednesday is open -- make an appointment.   (This is a TT schedule change.) Other TTs leading up to finals week are open. 

First semester finals week: December 20, 21, 22. There is no school on December 23rd. 

Trojan Time Calendar 

Class Expectations: Please come to class on time every day, with your computer, binder, paper and pen/pencil.  Your computer should be charged, or you should have your charger with you. Please turn your phone off and put it away at the beginning of the period. 

Many assignments will be posted in Google Classroom, but others will be distributed in class.  If you are absent, email me to see whether I have a GC version of work that you missed.  Check Aeries for your current grade. Aeries is the official gradebook. 

If you have an excused absence, see me to get your work stamped when you return to school. 

COVID Precautions:  Public health experts are recommending masks (again).  Masks are available in the front office.

Last Week:

We continued our coverage of the Agricultural Revolution. 

More new vocabulary!

You took a vocabulary quiz. 

We discussed the process of industrialization and the changes it brought for workers. 

Edpuzzle video: Industrial Revolution. 

This week:

You'll take notes on the Industrial Revolution in Britain. 

Social Pyramid: social classes during the Industrial Revolution. 

More vocabulary!

We'll discuss the "Second Industrial Revolution" and the problems that arose during this time. 

If you haven't watched the video, do it this week. 


US History

Last Week: 

You took the unit test on Industrialization, Immigration and the Progressives at block period.

You also handed in a packet of materials from your binder.   

New Unit: The Emergence of the US As A World Power.  (Foreign Policy!)

We started with with some basic concepts related to foreign policy. 

You'll complete a spectrum showing types of foreign policy. 

Edpuzzle: US Foreign Policy. 

This Week:

Notes: US Foreign Policy in the 19th Century.  

We'll begin our coverage of the Spanish-American War, a major event that signaled the emergence of the US as a global player. 

You'll receive a handout with basic facts about the war, and you'll take a vocabulary quiz. 

You will analyze primary sources supporting and opposing US annexation of the Philippines.

AP European History

Last Week:

I lectured on the Scientific Revolution and Enlightenment. 

You finished reading Candide and discussed it in groups.  

Also in groups: Rousseau.  You should be able to compare him to Hobbes and Locke. 

You wrote an SAQ on war and state-building in the 17th century. These suffered from a lack of specific examples. 

New AP vids were posted. 

You finished off the Chapter 16 SG and and some sources related to women during the Thanksgiving break. 

This Week: 
We'll try to wrap up the 17th century this week.  

You should be ready to hand in the SG.  You should also be ready to discuss the sources related to women.  Did the Enlightenment result in major changes for women? 

New AP vids are posted. 

AP Vids: they'll remain "live" for two weeks after the due date, after which they will not be available.  If you have backlog of unwatched videos, clear that up so the you can get credit for the vids.

Week of 11-14 to 11-18

Important Information for All Students: 

Schedule: Both Trojan Times this week are open. Make appointments!

Progress Reports: The 2nd quarter progress report period ended on Thursday, Nov. 10th. Your grades will be submitted to the office on Tuesday, Nov. 15. Please check Aeries, and see me if you have any questions about your grade.

We'll continue our coverage of the Agricultural Revolution. 

More new vocabulary!

You'll take a vocabulary quiz. 

We'll talk about the process of industrialization and the changes it brought for workers.

The Progressive Era: You researched an important person from the Progressive Era, and created a resume for him/her.  

Speed Dating: You met with other Progressive Era people, and exchange information. 

Review sheets were available for those who finished their resume.  

You took a practice assessment for this unit. 

This Week: 

We are postponing the unit test to block period on Wednesday. You will be handing in a packet of materials from your binder.  We'll spend Monday on review.

You're reading Candide. 

This Week:

You should finish Candide by block period, so you can discuss it in groups.  Who is Voltaire mocking? What seems to be his core dilemma? How does he resolve it?

Week of 11-7 to 11-11

Last Week: 

We started our coverage of the immigration in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.  You watched a video on Ellis Island. 

You took notes on the "new immigration." 

Edpuzzle: Immigration and the Rise of Nativism. 

We examined reactions to the new wave of immigration using political cartoons. 

This Week: 

The Progressive Era: During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, many prominent Americans influence our society in the fields of business, politics and public service. You will be researching on of these important Americans, and creating a resume for him/her. 

Speed Dating: When you've completed your resume, you will meet with other Progressive Era people, and exchange information. 

Review sheets will be available for those who finish their resume.  

You will be taking a practice assessment before the unit test. 

Unit Test: We should finish this unit by the end of the week. 


AP European History

I'll lecture on the development of constitutionalism in England.  

You received handouts on the rise of Parliament and further shifts in English foreign policy.   These are for study purposes; I suggest reading/highlighting.  Focus on the tension between political and religious reasons for the English Civil Wars. 

AP Vids were posted.  Also posted: Chapter 15 SG questions and IDs (highlighted) and the sheet with fill-in questions. 

You worked on your presentation on state development during the Age of Absolutism.  

This Week:

We'll continue with the presentations; we should be able to finish them by Tuesday. 

New AP Vids and MCQs are posted. 

Finish your SG and have it ready to hand in by Tuesday. 

We'll wrap up the Absolutism/Constitutionalism unit this week.  SAQ?
