Week of August 29 to September 2

 Important Information for All Students: 

Schedule: Regular schedule with block periods. (Check to school website to see the schedules.)  

Open TT on Tuesday and Wednesday this week!  Be sure to make appointments for both days.

BTSN: Back to School Night is this Thursday, September 1.   

Class Expectations: Please come to class on time every day, with your computer, binder, paper and pen/pencil.  Please turn your phone off and put it away at the beginning of the period. If it's OK for you to use the phone during class, I'll let you know. 

Check this weblog often.  Many assignments will be posted in Google Classroom, but others will be distributed in class.  Check Aeries for your current grade. Aeries is the official gradebook. 

COVID Precautions:  Most school activities will be "in person" this year! Masks are highly recommended but not required.  Masks are available in the office. Hand sanitizer will be available in the classroom.  If you have flu-like symptoms, please report this to the office.

EL World History

Last Week:

We added more words to the vocabulary dictionary, and we will review the words we have covered so far. 

You took a quiz on Social Studies Vocabulary 1-4. 

We began our coverage of the Rise of Democracy.  You'll take notes and answer questions on different types of government. 

This Week:

If you want to retake the vocabulary quiz (1-4), make an appointment for Trojan Time. 

We'll finish the notes on "What is Government?" and we'll review the types of government together. 

You'll fill in a chart on types of government. 

You'll add new words to your vocabulary notebook. 


US History

Last Week: 

We continued our coverage of the causes of the American Revolution.  You'll complete a timeline of key events, and we covered the Boston Massacre in greater detail.  

You wrote a "letter to the editor" on the Boston Massacre. 

We discussed the Declaration of Independence. 

Edpuzzles: Stamp Act and Boston Massacre. 

You read and annotated a primary source: Thomas Paine's Common Sense. 

This Week:

On Monday, you'll take the quiz on the events leading to the American Revolution. 

Textbook questions: Winning the War. 

I'll lecture on the aftermath of the war. 

You'll use several sources to answer questions about the Constitution.

AP European History

Last Week: 

I stamped the last set of review questions for SG 12. 

I lectured on the Italian Renaissance.

We discussed the difference between the Italian and Northern Renaissance with artworks. 

You prepared for small-group discussions on Machiavelli and More on Friday.

Map Quiz at Block!

Your complete Chapter 12 SG will be due by the end of the week. 

You'll have a little time to finish the questions on Machiavelli and More. 

I'll show some slides on the New Monarchs, and you can fill in your chart. 

I'll lecture on the early years of European exploration. 

We'll begin a practice DBQ -- you'll read, discuss and sort a set of documents, and create a plan for a DBQ.  We'll review the scoring guidelines for the DBQ.

There are no Open Trojan Times this week.  All TTs this week are "Closed."  Check your schedule in Aeries to find out where to go during Closed TT.

You practiced a political cartoon. 

We reviewed your notes on "Three Worlds Meet" and you took an open-note quiz. 

You completed a map and chart showing the colonies that later became the USA, and describing each colonial region.  

I lectured on the French and Indian War. 

This Week: 

We'll continue our coverage of the causes of the American Revolution.  You'll complete a timeline of key events, and we'll cover come events in greater detail. 

Edpuzzle Videos: The Stamp Act.  The Boston Massacre. Due before class on Friday. 

We'll discuss the Declaration of Independence. 

By the end of the week or early next week, you should be ready for a quiz on the path to the Revolution. 


AP European History

Last Week: 

We finished reviewing the summer homework. 

Machiavelli and More: Read the assigned sections of both books. 

Read/annotate: Excerpts from the Perry book; Bio on Machiavelli. 

SAQ at block, and we peer-reviewed it on Thursday. 

I posted the Study Guide for Chapter 12 in Google Classroom, and we started our coverage of the Renaissance. 

Due Thursday: Questions 1, 3 and 4 in the Chapter 12 SG.  Print your answers so I can stamp them.

AP Videos for this week were posted in GC. 

This Week:

Due Monday: Next set of questions from SG 12.  I will also post new questions.

We will start our coverage of the British colonies of North America, and the path leading to the American Revolution.  You will be completing a map and chart showing the colonies that later became the USA, and describing each colonial region. 


AP European History

We'll review the summer work, and we can start preparing for a writing assignment. 

SAQ at block, and we'll peer-review it on Thursday.

AP European History

We'll discuss some AP basics.

We'll move on to some introductory material on the "fall" of Rome and the Middle Ages.

By the end of the week, we should be ready to review the summer work, and we can start preparing for a writing assignment. 

Due Friday: A 3-ring binder and your signed permission slip for college-level materials.
