Week of 3-28 to 4-1 APEH ONLY

 AP Euro:

If  you are planning to take the AP Exam, you should be reviewing intensively at this point!  If you would like to borrow review materials from my class, check with me to see what's available. 

Last Week:  

Keep working on the SG for Chapter 26 is posted.  Finish it over break. 

AP Vids for this week were posted.  There were no due dates in AP Classroom, but watch them!  

I'll lecture on the Interwar period.  There are some good slideshares posted, and a couple of quizlets for review. 

This Week:
Check Google Classroom for things to keep you busy this week:

Try to finish Chapter 26.  I will post Chapter 27 soon.  (We still need to review Chapter 25.)

Do the POV comparison on collectivization in the USSR (Stalin and Kopolev). 

There is a multiple choice "quiz" posted in AP Classroom.  Keep context in mind; this will help you choose the correct answers. 

Take a look at the slideshares if you can.  

I'll lecture on Economic and Political Upheaval in the coming week. 

AP Vids: If you haven't watch the AP Daily Vids that were listed in Google Classroom for last week, please DO WATCH them.  There was no due date shown for them in AP Classroom, and I wasn't able to insert a due date after they were assigned.

Week of 3-21 to 3-25

Important Information for All Students:

Tuesday's TT is closed; Wednesday is open. 

Third Quarter Ended March 11th.  Quarter grades were filed on March 15th. See me if you have questions about your grade. 

Assemblies for Juniors and Seniors: There will be an assembly for all Juniors and Seniors on Thursday during 3rd period (you will also be late to 4th). Juniors and Seniors will also go to assemblies on Friday.  You will only go to one assembly on Friday, during either 1st, 3rd or 5th period. 

Absences: If you were absent due to illness for an extended time period due to an exclusion or quarantine, see me about what materials you need to make up. Come to Trojan Time to find out what you can do to catch up.  

Give priority to current work! Check with me before you do assignments from pervious units.  I am not accepting work or changing grades from first semester. 

Covid Precautions:  Starting Monday, March 14, masks will be optional outdoors, and optional but recommended in the classroom.

Last Week:

You took notes on the end of the war in Europe and the Pacific. 

We covered US decision to drop atomic bombs on Japan at the end of the war. 

You started work on a book about World War II.

This Week:

You'll have time to finish your book about World War II.  

We'll begin reviewing World War II, and preparing for a unit test. 

You will take the unit test on WWII on Friday, March 25. 

US History:

Last Week:
We began our coverage of the Cold War.  We'll cover some basic concepts related to the Cold War and American society in the years following WWII. 

Cold War Basics: We'll review basic vocabulary from the Cold War -- this is material you covered last year, but you may have forgotten.  Also: Slides and a handout.  You took a vocabulary quiz on these terms on Friday. 

Textbook Notes on "Cold War Begins" were due at block.  The next section of textbook notes, "Cold War Deepens," will be due on Monday, March 21. 

You worked in pairs to read an article about the Korean War.  After reading the article, you completed a map, and read quotes from President Truman and General MacArthur. 

An Edpuzzle video on the Truman Doctrine, Containment and the Marshall Plan was posted in GC. 

Extra Credit Edpuzzle: Pioneers of Rock and Roll.  

This Week:
We'll review the Korean War, and you'll have time to answer the questions on the back of your map. 

We'll cover the society of the 1950s, when the Cold War was hot and the music was cool. 

We'll review your textbook notes on "Cold War Deepens."  (We've already covered some of this material).

The Russian Revolution.  I posted two sets of slides on this -- one is long and contains historical background on Russia, the other is more focused on the Revolution. 

Videos: The Treaty of Versailles, and History vs. Lenin. 

This Week:
You should be ready to hand in your Chapter 25 SG and some of the review sheets. 

The SG for Chapter 26 is posted.

At block period on Wednesday, you wrote about the US decision to drop atomic bombs on Japan at the end of World War II.  

You completed a crossword puzzle as review of WWII, and took a short quiz.

Textbook Notes: The Cold War Begins.  The textbook chapter is posted in GC. Your notes are due on Wednesday, March 16.

Week of 3-7 to 3-11

Important Information for All Students: 

Schedule for this week

On Monday, students in grades 9-11 will attend the ASB Forum in the CFA.  You will attend with your social studies class. Come to class at the beginning of the period; seating in the CFA is assigned by class. 

Tuesday's Trojan Time is "closed."  Wednesday is "open," so make an appointment. 

Thursday and Friday, March 10 and 11, are early release days. You will attend all periods, and you will be released at 2:29 pm.

We covered the start of the war in the Pacific, and you watched an Edpuzzle video on the "Path to Pearl Harbor." 

You completed your textbook notes on "War around the World." 

We completed a map of Japanese expansion together in class.  

We watched "Hitler's Declaration of War on the US" together in class, and you answered questions about the video. 

This Week:

We'll discuss WWII in North African and Italy, and we'll cover the fighting in the Pacific Theater. 

Review: A "Newspaper" page on the war. You may pick your topics, and draw an illustration.

US History:

Last Week:
You set up a chart to record evidence about the US decision to develop and use atomic bombs at the end of World War II.  

You read two introductory articles on the development of the atomic bombs, and began to fill in your chart. You watched a short Edpuzzle video that introducedthe historical debate on this topic. 

During the rest of the week, you read and annotated additional sources and continued to record the conflicting arguments on your chart.  You answered a series of questions about these sources.

This Week: 
At block period on Wednesday, you will be writing about the US decision to drop atomic bombs on Japan at the end of World War II.  You may have your chart on your desk as you write. 

On Thursday and Friday, we'll be wrapping up World War II and moving on to the Cold War. 

You'll complete a crossword puzzle as review, then take a short quiz.

Chapter 24 SG was due on Tuesday.  I collected review materials on Thursday.

AP Vids were posted, along with an Edpuzzle video on Modernism.  

I finally lectured on the Nation State.  

This Week: 

On to WWI!  Chapter 25 Study Guide is in GC.  We're more or less on schedule for the AP Exam in early May, but we will need to move quickly. 

We'll try to move through the events of WWII quickly.  We are mainly interested in the impact of the war on European societies, as well as the aftermath of the war. 

WWI changed everything. You'll read an article describing the changes. 

AP Vids are posted, along with a couple of Edpuzzle videos. 

I'll provide an overview of WWI, and various handouts. 

I've posted a couple of slideshare presentations on "Modernism" and "Social Changes during World War I."
