Week 4 of Distance Learning August 31 to September 4
Important Information for All Students
Get a routine going for each of your classes. Check the class website (if there is one) and Google Classroom every day to make sure you see any new assignments or due dates. Check your email frequently.
Today and tomorrow (August 31 and September 1) are the makeup days to pick up textbooks and other class materials.
The school is planning to hold virtual Back-to-School Night next week. More information to come.
Reminder about late work: grading late work is a low priority for me, because there is so much other stuff to grade, post, edit, etc. If work is substantially late, it's possible that I will not be able to grade it. Check with me by email about this.
Classes:
EL World History:
We will start reviewing basic social studies vocabulary this week. I hope that everyone now has the vocabulary notebooks that were distributed, along with a whiteboard.
Quiz! The quiz on terms related to time periods will be due on Wednesday, September 2. We'll review the terms on Tuesday. The quiz is posted in Google Classroom, so you can work on it when you feel ready.
We will also start to discuss types of government. You will be creating a slide presentation showing different types of government.
US History:
You should have turned in your chart of facts about the British Colonies on Friday.
I will lecture on the French and Indian War in class on Monday/Tuesday, and you will also watch a video about this important turning point in the coming of the American Revolution.
Remember to watch the video all the way through, or Google Classroom will record it as ungraded.
Quiz! I will post a quiz that covers all the material we have covered so far. This will be due on Friday, September 4.
Quizlet: Do the quizlet on the 13 Colonies. It's just a set of flashcards for review. It's due at the end of next week.
On Thursday/Friday of this week, we will begin to discuss the events leading to the outbreak of the Revolution, and you will start creating a timeline in Google Slides (or PowerPoint). This will be due by the end of next week.
Sources for your timeline include lecture notes, a textbook section (Toward Revolution) and a video (Road to Revolution).
APEH:
You should have turned in your Narrative of the Later Middle Ages. Scores are in Aeries.
Your SAQ on the later Middle Ages is due on Wednesday, September 2. Remember to give yourself a limited amount of time to complete this practice SAQ....1/2 hour at the very most. The goal is to see if you can cite specific historical evidence of the type requested in the question, and identify the significance (the relationship between your evidence and the question). Use the SEA method to ensure that you are fully answering the question.
We will be starting the Renaissance this week. Open the Chapter 12 SG and you will see that it is structured in the same way as the SG you completed over the summer. It's a Word document, but you can open it in Docs and save it to your Drive, so that you can work with it.
Read the first two sections of text and answer the questions. Keep your answers specific and informative, no fluff. Answers are due on Friday (September 4).
Machiavelli and More: Start reading the excerpts from these two important authors and their most well-known works. The questions are already posted. Your goal is to have this reading done and be ready to answer the questions by Thursday of next week (September 10). I know you really want to read these works in their entirety, but I have nevertheless posted excerpts.
Videos: Watch the videos on the Florentine Renaissance and the Northern Renaissance. They're not long, and they hit on major themes for this period.
