APEH:
I hope you are well along in your summer work! It will help to do the assignments in order...In other words, start with the maps and the reading about the transition from antiquity to the middle ages (Freeman), then go to the reading on Charlemagne. Then move on to the textbook material and the primary sources.
If you are planning to do extra credit, summer is a good time to do it. Read a book about the later middle ages or the early modern period (Renaissance). You can do one book report a quarter. If you find a book you want to read that's not on my list, email me and I'll let you know whether it will be acceptable. It must be serious historical work; generally this excludes fiction.
If you didn't pick up the maps before school ended in June, you will have to wait until August to get them, as I do not have digital copies. I'll be at school during the week before classes start, so email me if you want to drop by to pick up a set of maps.
Don't forget that the assignment is due the last day of summer school (by noon on July 27th), as the school pretty much closes down after that, and it will be hard for you to get in to the office. Put all your typed, neatly formatted materials in a folder or envelop and leave it in my box in the main office (under my name).
Please don't put loose, disorganized, or messy papers in the box. Imagine that you are turning in work to a college instructor, and ask yourself if your work is up to the expected standard.
Have a great summer, and feel free to email me with any questions.
