As we go through this chapter, remember to keep asking yourself how the events of the French Revolution reflect the clash of old social and political institutions with new developments (especially new ideas about politics, the economy and the social order).  How does Napoleon represent both a fulfillment of the new outlook and a continuation of earlier models of authority?
