US History:
1. Due Friday: Short writing assignment. Write a paragraph identifying and explaining a foreign policy goal you think the US should try to achieve. For your topic sentence, clearly state the policy goal you have in mind. In the body of the paragraph, explain why you think this goal is a good one, and how you think it could be achieved. State whether you think your policy and methods are an example of isolationism, collective security, internationalism or imperialism.

World History:
1. Due Friday: Outline or Cornell notes on the "Outbreak of WWI." Be sure to leave white space at the left side of your notes. You must use the headings and subheadings in the text to organize your notes.

APEH:
1. Massive lecture on the Enlightenment coming your way.
2. Work on the Study Guides for Chapters 18 -- 20. The test on these three units will take place soon after the break.

US History:
1. Due Friday: Paragraph proposing a US foreign policy. In your topic sentence, make a clear statement of a policy goal you think the US should try to achieve. Explain why you believe this policy is necessary and how the US could achieve it. At the end of your paragraph, state whether your policy is isolationist, collective security, internationalist or imperialist. Typed, double spaced, 12 pt font, 1" margins.

World History:
1. Due Friday: Cornell or outline notes on the outbreak of WWI.

APEH:
1. We'll continue to work on the Study Guide and readings. It's possible that we'll do another quickie essay outline.

US History:
You do not have homework. If you missed the test on the Industrialization unit, see me immediately!

World History:
1. Due at block: Carefully read and highlight the handout "Bismarck and the Unification of Germany." Remember you are trying to highlight as few words as possible. Circle words you don't know, or that you think your classmates might need to have explained.

APEH:
1. Work on the Study Guide and the Scientific Revolution questions. If you've finished Chapter 18 and the associated readings in Perry, go on to Chapter 19. These are closely related chapters.
2. Review the different models of absolutism and the justifications for them.

1. No homework.
2. Open-note homework quiz on "Reaching for Empire" on Monday.

World History:
1. The unit test on Imperialism will take place on Monday. Be sure to bring your binder to class.
2. If you decide to do some of the Review Sheet for extra credit, remember to focus on the significance of each term (not just a dictionary definition). Write neatly (type if possible). Copy each term or question you are answering.

APEH:
1. Work on the Ch. 18 readings and Study Guide. You may divide the questions among your study group members, but each member must come to class on Monday prepared to lead a discussion of the questions he/she researched.
2. What were the various political and theological ideas advanced to support absolutism?

US History:
1. You should finish both the Progressives worksheet (and "I believe..." statements") by the beginning of the period on Thursday, if you didn't finish them in class at block.
2. If you didn't get credit for the binder check, you have one week to bring it in (break, lunch, 1st period, after school) to get it checked.
3. The test on the Industrialization/Immigration/Progressives unit is Thursday, Dec. 11. Be sure you bring your binder to class.

World History:
1. You should have finished the text assignment "British Imperialism in India" and the map of "India before 1947" in class at block. I will still stamp them at the beginning of the period on Thursday.

APEH:
1. Last absolutism presentation and test on Ch. 16 and 17 will take place at block.
2. You will be turning in your Study Guide and one essay outline. Please create a thorough outline; bullet points are fine, but each point should be a complete idea, not just a couple of random words.

World History:
1. Finish your map of the British Empire if you haven't already done so.

APEH:
1. Last absolutism presentation at block, followed by test on Chapters 16 and 17. You should be ready to hand in your Study Guide and one essay outline.
2. I still have two copies of Candide to lend out...or buy a copy and donate it for 5 points!
3. Can you come up with 3 examples to compare/contrast of how kings attempted to "tame" the nobility in the pursuit of absolutism? (Individual monarchs and/or national patterns.)

World History:
1. If you didn't finish the map of the British Empire in class on Friday, please finish it over the weekend and have it ready for a stamp on Monday.

APEH:
1. We'll finish the absolutism presentations on Monday, and take the test on Chapter 16 and 17 at block.
2. You should have your Study Guide and one essay outline ready to hand in at block.
3. Don't forget to obtain a copy of Candide in the near future.

Friday is the end of the 2nd quarter progress report period. Grades will be filed Tuesday morning, and progress reports will go home on Thursday.

US History:
1. Due Friday: "The New Immigration." Read and highlight carefully, circling words you don't know or words you think the class would like to have explained. Answer the questions at the bottom of the page.
2. Quiz on "Facing a New Order" will take place on Friday.

World History:
1. You do not have homework.

APEH:
1. We should be able to start the absolutism presentations on Friday.
2. We'll be ready for a test on this unit (Chapter 16 and 17) either at block or Thursday, depending on how long it takes to do the presentations.
3. Pick up a copy of Candide! It's an easy read...just remember it's satire, so some strange stuff happens.

1. You should have finished the textbook assignment "Imperialism Divides Africa" and the map entitled "Scramble for Africa" in class at block.
2. I'll stamp the reading on the Congo on Thursday. Try to answer the questions without looking the words up in a dictionary. In other words, try to figure out the meanings of the words from the context of the reading.

APEH:
1. This is a short unit. Work on your Study Guide!

Second quarter progress report period ends on Friday, Dec. 5. (This is just the progress report, not the actual quarter grade.) Grades will be submitted to the office on Tuesday, Dec. 9th; they should be mailed out by Thursday, Dec. 11th.

US History:
1. Due Thursday: Textbook reading guide entitled "Facing a New Order."

World History:
1. You need a new divider for our unit on Imperialism.
2. You do not have homework.

APEH:
1. You should have finished reading Chapter 16 and the assorted selections on absolutism.
2. We'll compare England/France and Spain/Holland in the 1600s using the PERSIA method.
3. You should get a copy of Candide, or borrow one from me (supplies are limited!).
