US History:
1. If you didn't get points for your binder, you have until the end of this coming week to get it in order and bring it in for my approval. Don't fail to do this...it's worth 30 points. If your binder is a mess, come in at lunch and we'll get it in order.
2. The unit test on our current unit (Industrialization, Immigration and the Progressive Era) will take place on Monday. I'll stamp the review sheet (crossword) at the beginning of the perid.
3. You'll need a new divider for our next unit -- Foreign Policy.

World History:
1. No homework.

APEH:
1. We'll finish the presentations on Monday, and we should have time to discuss the Dutch DBQ in groups.
2. Chapter 16 & 17 test is Tuesday, and your study guide is due.
3. You will be writing a DBQ on absolutism. Or maybe on attitudes toward the poor? Decisions, decisions....
4. Get Candide and start reading!

Don't forget that 2nd quarter progress report period ends next Thursday. If you have work to make up, see me right away.

US History:
1. If you didn't finish the Progressives worksheet, finish it as homework.
2. We'll do the crossword review tomorrow and take the unit test on Monday.
3. Where did Jane Addams do her social work? What was the name of the book that described her experiences there? (2pts)

World History:
1. You should have finished both the map and the chart on Hindus/Muslims.
2. We'll watch a little bit of Gandhi on Friday.
3. Write a few sentences that explain how industrialization can lead to imperialism. (5pts).

APEH:
1. Your PERSIA on England and France is due on Friday.
2. We'll start our presentations on Eastern Absolutism at the beginning of the period on Friday.
3. We should have time for small group discussions of the Dutch Republic DBQ before we take the unit test on Chapters 16 and 17 (block period?).

1. If you didn't finish the "Heritage of South Asia" reading/questions in class during the block period, you'll have time to finish on Thursday.

APEH:
1. PERSIA comparing England and France from 1603 -- 1715 is due on Friday.
2. We'll work on Eastern Absolutism for the next couple of days, and then we'll be ready for the test on Chapters 16 and 17...so get your study guide finished.

US History:
1. If you finished "Facing a New Order" and "New Immigration" last week, you have no homework. If not, I will stamp them on Monday.

World History:
1. If you didn't finish your map of the British Empire on Friday, it's due on Monday.

APEH:
1. Read Chapter 16 (Absolutism and Constitutionalism) over the holiday break. Work on your study guide as you go along.
2. We'll do Chapter 17 (Eastern Absolutism) after the break, and the unit test will be on both chapters.
3. Read Bosuet (Divine Right Theory) and St. Simon (dissing Louis XIV).

1. Due on Thursday: "Facing a New Order."

World History:
1. Due Thursday: Reading and questions on imperialism in the Congo. Answer the questions on a separate sheet of paper, using complete sentences. You may choose to write either #10 or #11. Take the point of view of either a supporter of Belgian actions in the Congo, or the point of view of someone who opposes Belgian actions. Write a letter to King Leopold explaining your position.

APEH:
1. Due Thursday: Answers to the questions about the development of the global economy.
2. We'll try to test on Friday.

2. Read the handout I gave you on Friday. What is "commercial colonialism?" Compare/contrast the POV of the four authors on the Atlantic slave trade.
3. Keep working on your study guide. We may be able to test on this unit Friday!

World History:
1. If you didn't finish the worksheet on "Patterns of Thought" in class on Thursday, please have it finished for Friday.
2. You should also have the "Era of Industrialization" sheet with the 30 statements about industrialization ready on Friday. We'll review both sheets.
3. The unit test on the Industrial Revolution will take place on Tuesday. Remember that there are not block periods next week! Bring your binder.

APEH:
1. Hub Dates Friday.
2. We'll wrap up the Thirty Years' War notes. What is the significance of the Treaty of Westphalia?
3. Read Junius and consider the phenomenon of witch hunting. Read Malebranche and Montaigne and think about how they're modern.

There are no block periods next week. Monday is a holiday (thank a veteran). Tuesday through Friday, first period will start at 7:15 as usual. Everyone will attend an assembly during either third or fourth period on Wednesday or Thursday.

US History:

2. What are some possible explanations for the Great Witch Hunt? Did people just go crazy?? For some reason or reasons, people of this particular time and place engaged in an orgy of what appears to be totally irrational violence against their own friends and neighbors. Try to offer at least one or two possible explanations.

We are now in 2nd Quarter. I will start a fresh gradebook for the quarter. The semester grade will be the average of the two quarters. (Your score on the 1st Semester final exam goes into the 2nd Quarter grade.)

US History:
1. Due at block: "Rise of Industrialism." We'll take an open-note quiz on this assignment.

World History:
1. Due Friday: "Era of Industrialization." Are these statements Advantages, Disadvantages, or merely Descriptions? You don't have to find exactly 10 of each, but you should be able to explain your decision about each statement.

APEH:
1. Hub Dates Friday!
2. Read Junius, Malebranche and Montaigne. Malebranche and Montaigne are men of their time, but they are trying to make sense of the enormous social changes that are taking place around them. In what ways are they "modern" thinkers?

1. Due Friday: Ten most important facts (five from each side) from the reading handed out in class.
2. We'll take a open note quiz on the rise of industrialization in Britain on Monday.

1. Finish your timeline of shifts in English foreign policy, if you haven't already done so.
2. Finish the McKay chapter and work on your study guide.
3. We'll take the Notorious French Kings Quiz at the beginning of the period on Friday -- First fourteen kings only (through the end of the Bourbon).
